Even as 'Senator Pothole,' Hillary has 'em guessing
U.S. News ^ | 10/22/01 | Washinton Whispers by Paul Bedard

There's an "I told you so" mood in the office of New York rookie Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. She promised to focus on local issues and ignore the call for higher office and has done just that, noticeably at a time when she could easily be making some hay following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. "Our job is to fight for New York. Period," says aide Jim Kennedy. "She's being very careful not to grandstand or draw attention to herself," adds AP reporter Beth Harpaz, author of Girls in the Van, about Clinton's Senate campaign. In fact, Clinton has used virtually every post-September 11 speech to draw attention to the plight of New Yorkers while not playing the larger national role her GOP foes expected. But don't dismiss her chances–or interest–in 2004, says New York-based pollster John Zogby. Noting her 59 percent approval rating, he says she is building a home base first. "I would not count her out of 2004," says Zogby. Understood, says the GOP, which is rolling out a book critical of the Clintons' final days in the Oval Office written by September 11 victim and Republican scandal sleuth Barbara Olson.

"she could easily be making some hay following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center."

The "hay", or more likely in this case, the resultant "bullcrap" result of the hay falls a little close to her and her hubby's recent lack of action towards terrorism. There is nothing clever about her silence. It is purely CYA........

By the time 04 rolls around, all we need to do is replay pics of her kissing Arafats wife after her anti semetic comments.

Can anyone post pictures of Hillary pouting and making faces during Bush's speech to Congress? I have yet to see any posted here.

You bet. Here's the careful, non-grandstanding Hillary working hard not to draw attention to herself in the aftermath of September 11, answering a question about how she thought people would react to knowing that they are on the receiving end of a murderous anger:

One of the most difficult experiences that I personally had in the White House was during the health-care debate, being the object of extraordinary rage. I remember being in Seattle. I was there to make a speech about health care. This was probably August of '94. Radio talk-show hosts had urged their listeners to come out and yell and scream and carry on and prevent people from hearing me speak. There were threats that were coming in, and certain people didn't want me to speak, and they started taking weapons off people, and arresting people. I've had firsthand looks at this unreasoning anger and hatred that is focussed on an individual you don't know, a cause that you despise -- whatever motivates people."

Has anyone noticed that Hillary's supporters in the press lie a lot?

Of course Hillary is laying low -- times like this require adult leaders, not infantile morons with psychiatric disorders.

Shes's holed up somewhere and laying low. There's bound to be some terrorist campaign cash in her warbag. After all, they weren't giving those pardons away.

That has been given a good talking to and issued a warning.

Now run along and play and don't get into any trouble.

...she could easily be making some hay following the terrorist attacks...

Hitlery knows that this is not the time to bash George W because of his enormous approval rating. Polls mean everything to her. She's playing it smart and lying low on the national scene right now. Rest assured that she's sharpening her hatchet and turbo-charging her broom as we speak.

hum, so she wasn't grandstanding when she talked about being terrified for Chelsea? I seem to remember she was on T.V. TWO days after the attack, drawing attention to herself. Yea, hum, guess that wasn't grandstanding. I guess I really didn't see her talking about HERSELF non-stop. Hum?!

"The GOP" is issuing Barbara Olson's book? I had no idea the Republican National Committee owned Regnery.

What kind of idiot does this writer take us for?

And EVERYONE'S poll ratings are up, because of 9/11. Hitlery isn't getting 58% because she's actually done anything.

Funny, I figured one reason she has managed to lay low may have something to do with the disgusting appearance she made during President Bush's speech to Congress.

Why is everything a "fight" with these Clintons. It appears to be one of their favorite words. To say that she is trying not to draw attentin to herself is a lousy attempt at humor.

Lying Low? I saw her make two 10 minute appearances this past week on ABC and CBS pushing some kind of federal plan for, "protecting the children" from toxic attack. She had some John's Hopkins flak in tow who dutifully explained that children were more suseptible to chemical and biological agents. Of course she wasn't trying to scare anyone or get more face time. No. She doesn't know how to lie low. She only knows how to lie high.

When Clinton was in office he released some known terrorists that were in prison. Does anyone remember the details on this? I wonder if some of these folks were involved with the trade center destruction? I do remember that many people were angry because Clinton released these people.
