Trump Wants Parachute

Trump wants parachute
From CLODAGH HARTLEY
in Los Angeles

PROPERTY billionaire Donald Trump has been thinking of buying a PARACHUTE in the wake of last month’s attacks on skyscrapers.

Trump, 55 — owner of Manhattan’s glitzy Trump Towers — is one of scores of nervous New Yorkers to inquire about new “executive” chutes.

US makers Precision Aerodynamics say they have been besieged by calls about the £500 chutes — billed as a “last resort” for those trapped on top of burning high-rise buildings.

A rival, the Emergency Building Escape Parachute, will cost £1,575 or more — depending on the customer’s weight.

Precision Aerodynamics’ brochure says the chutes, developed after the September 11 atrocities, will open automatically.

It adds: “Simple steering and landing techniques can deliver you to the surface with confidence.”

But the American Parachute Industry Association said most people who used the products would DIE.

It is discouraging sales to office workers.

Spokesman Lowell Bachman said: “It’s just not a good idea.”

He suggested ropes and abseiling equipment might be a better choice.

'most people would die'. scientific studies have proven that people jumping out of tall building *without* chutes die almost every time. i'd strap one, jump and start praying. better yet, start a home based business in the rocky mountains.

Ok, Lowell, why is it not a good idea? Probably b/c the wind would suck you back close to the building? The Sun isn't the best source for this stuff anyway. Not sure, but I do see base jumpers jumping off buildings. And if I had a choice of burning alive or take my chances with a parachute, I would choose the chute any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Get a clue, buddy!

It is cheaper and safer to put you and yours in a nice ground floor building somehwere outside of ground zero...

Some people get lucky in the money section of their astrological chart, but lose out in the common sense area...

Poor Donald! All money, and no common sense.

I heard the owner of this company Executive Chutes on the radio the other day. He said they were ready to go to market at the beginning of the year but they scrapped the idea 'cause they thought no one would buy one. Before 9-11 he was probably right. Price-$795.

A good friend of mine works for the parent company of this product, Destiny Powerchutes, in my tiny little town of Three Rivers, MI and he was saying they were concerned about marketing this because they did not want to appear to be capitalizing on the attacks, but they have been overwhelmed with requests even from their limited advertising. They just purchased a new building to increase their production capabilities.

How high up are the Trump Towers? Can a parachute really work if it's deployed from just a few hundred feet?

Mr. Trump might want to think about what kind of message that might send to potential buyers/tenants in his New York skyscrapers.

"No thanks, Mr. Trump. I wouldn't want to live or work in this building even if you paid me. I think your 20th century tall-building paradigm has come to an abrupt end."

Perhaps he can figure a way to have his hairpiece double as a chute. If we start seeing CEO's sporting Pompadours, we'll know whats up.
