Is China moving in?
Sources report thousands of troops deployed to back Taliban
© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com Long Chinese convoys were carrying armed Chinese Muslim servicemen through northwest China into Afghanistan to support the Taliban militia prior to today's U.S. offensive, according to the intelligence sources of DEBKA-Net-Weekly.
The DEBKA sources report the troop strength of the Chinese columns at between 5,000 and 15,000. The first troops reportedly crossed the border Friday.
The troop movements are reported along the ancient Krakoram Road to the Afghan-Pakistani border, through the Kulik Pass of Little Pamir, which is situated in one of the highest and most remote regions of the world. Beijing is reportedly deploying this force in two places:
1. Whakyir, the Kirgyz tribal encampment near the Little Pamir-Tadjik frontier, opposite the swelling concentration of U.S. and Russian Special Forces and air strength. The Chinese have brought with them Kirgyz fundamentalist militants from the Ferghana Valley of Central Asia, as interpreters. From Whakyir, the Chinese generals believe, with bin Laden's and the Taliban's tacticians, they will be able to block off the movement of the U.S.-led force from its rallying point in Dzhartygumbez, Tadjikistan, no more than 35 miles from Little Pamir, into the mountains of Hindu Kush.
2. Jalalabad in north Afghanistan, at the foot of the Hindu Kush range. DEBKA's Chinese sources say that, immediately after the terrorist strikes in the United States Sept. 11, the Chinese intelligence service, MSS, handed in to the defense ministry in Beijing its estimation that the U.S. would go to war to overthrow the Taliban regime, for the sake of which it would sign a pact with Russia. The Chinese leadership viewed this eventuality as the most significant shift in the global balance since the 1962 Chinese-Russian feud, with dangerous implications for China's world standing and its interests in Central and Southwest Asia. Beijing reportedly concluded such an alliance must be counteracted.

WHY are you going there?

Seems to me another media source wold have reported this by now...take anything you read on WND with DEBKA as their only source with a grain of salt....or better yet, a whole shaker of salt...

Beijing reportedly concluded such an alliance must be counteracted. Or maybe they just wanted an excuse to get rid of their Muslims and are counting on us to kill them.
More likely, report is false.
Still what is so important to travel now to a part of the world in upheaval.

Bill Gertz reported movement of Chinese troops to the Afghan border last week.
The notion that they're going to re-enforce Taliban forces is pure fiction. They're securing the border, that's all. Not an unusual event when a neighboring country is going to war
If the Chinese are going to do anything as a result of this war, they're going to invade Taiwan at the height of the conflict. Then it's World War III.

Seems to me the Chinese are getting really nervous about Xinjiang. For the past few weeks, its seems like there have been dozens of TV shows on various channels here in Beijing playing to the whole "Eternal Friendship Bewteen the Han and Xinjiang Minority Groups." I'm 99% sure all the aid they've given the Taliban in the past came with a big "do not allow Uyghers from Xinjiang to be trained in bin Laden's camps" proviso--in essence, a bribe.

I'm sorry but I have a big problem accepting the credibility of World Net Daily. When Bill Gertz authors this same piece, let me know.

Perhaps China is moving troops to the border to prevent an influx of Muslim refugees. Perhaps they are there to offer support to the Taliban. Either way, they prevent expansion of their own Muslim problem by denying refugees and by keeping their Muslims at the ready to help their brothers. I don't think China is anxious to pursue another Korea/Viet Nam scenario in a harsh and remote land, especially for the sake of a people that they can barely tolerate.

Ditto, The ChiComs are doing what we should have years years ago...securing their border. They probably just want to make sure that none of the muslin(mispelled out of disrepect) problems spread to some of their provinces.
BTW, for any of those diaper heads planning to protest..I'll respect your first amendment right to free speech if you'll respect my 2nd amendment rights.

I new it was Debka.
No it is not true, the Chinese have there own problems with Taliban backed guerrillas in the Xinjiang province.
China has gone on record supporting the American strikes against the Taliban.

--umm, I know debka is thoroughly discredited here. With that said, doesn't anyone remember the day before the attacks that china signed a broad agreement with the taliban? It involved both civilian and military cooperation? It was reported here I believe.

I gave up on WND quite a bit back. There was another China Massing headline a while back which was untrue, but about the Sudan, I think. If there are troops there it is to handle the refugee problems that are developing. Iran, Packistan and Ubekistan have done the same, so no big deal. Pardon the spelling, but in a hurry.

NOT!!!!! DEBKA is total BS.

If true, kill them too. One terrorist or potential terrorist is one too many.

WHY are you going there?

I think you're correct about the fiction. My first inclination and good friend says no way the Commies will back those guys.
And I CERTAINLY hope you're wrong about the WWIII thing! At least until I get back! ;-)
To: hflynn, All
---which is total bs? I'm refering to that original story I seem to remember, the day before the wtc attacks, about china and the taliban signing a cooperation dealie. All I am asking is if anyone else remembers this, and what were the details and sources, that's all. I read too many threads and articles to remember that particular one accurately. I could care less about the debka, it's that other story I am interested in, then compare what happens. If that was a debka story as well, then never mind, I just don't remember the source.
