A BIPARTISAN proposal in Congress to give the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate tobacco products is a milestone in the tobacco wars. The bill has strong support from anti-tobacco activists and Altria Group Inc., as tobacco giant Philip Morris is now known. It is sponsored by two Republicans, Sen. Mike DeWine (Ohio) and Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (Va.), and by two Democrats, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (Mass.) and Rep. Henry A. Waxman (Calif.). Philip Morris has, for some time now, declared its support for FDA jurisdiction in principle -- a position that puts it at odds with the other major players in its industry. But the company and public health advocates have not agreed on how strong the agency's authority should be in critical areas. Now, for the first time, both sides have signed on to the same bill.

I don't disagree that manufacturerd cigarettes contain many, many additives, but as far as I know "tar" is not an additive it is a byproduct of the burning (combustion) of the leaf - something you will get regardless of what is burned.
There are many smoking products on the (legal) market that contain no nicotine at all, yet people enjoy them as well.
I was in Delaware in March and was given a pack of non-tobacco cigarettes, they were very pleasant, and perfectly legal to smoke in the bar, in a state with a very strict smoking ban.
I haven't been able to stand PM for years! They talk out of both sides of their mouth. If they are so against cigarettes, why are they still selling them? Pull them off of the market and be done with it. What a bunch of A-Holes!
Could it be that it's called addicting just because it is enjoyable? There IS a difference.
and your point being is??? you quite good for you, but stand up wind of me and mine while we enjoy a legal product, oh I do believe in personal choice do you
I sure know it! I was waiting for a prescription the other day and took note of the price of the Nicorette Gum...........$49.95 a box! You could buy a carton of cigarettes for that! Goodness!
hehe ! Click on the pic/link .....
What a bunch of A-Holes!
I can get 5 cartons of the brand I buy when I can't get loose tobacco for that price. $8.99 a carton at the Corner Mart!
ASSMAN! LOL! Kramer had a license plate with ASSMAN on it. hee hee. I remember that!
With the Feds, I can see anything. They can make the most assinine laws.
This is my second attempt. Last year I had a real bad go of it cause the weather was crap and I started too late. Hey good luck with your crop. Let me know how it goes.
Perhaps there is enough interest to start a Freeper Tobacco Growing club?
This is my first attempt.
One of the folks on the WFTD threads spent his summers growing up working on his grandparent's tobacco farm and told me to feel free to holler if I've got questions!!!
I don't know if there are enough folks interested in growing their own......but keep your eye out for the Friday Smoker's Lounge - we can bring up the idea then..... (hint to JaJ please open the lounge this week)
hehehe ! Yep ! :^D
Is RJR still OK?
Yeh, yeh. What? You wanted me to open the Lounge on my Wedding Anniversary last weekend?
Fat chance. ;^)
Marginally better than PM, but not much.....they do oppose this particular legislation.
But they are in bed with PM when it comes to trying to force the small companies into having to participate in the MSA, even though many of the small guys weren't even in existence in 1998.
You could have told somebody - and asked one of us to open it up...............
BTW - Happy anniversary!
I've been smoking Vantage since 1977, when I quit smoking Winstons.
I am too lazy to roll my own. Do you know a good mid-level tar and nicotine cigarette I could switch to?
I'm resigned to the fact that I'm the only one that can/will open the Lounge on a holiday weekend.
When I'm not smoking homemades I smoke Tahoe's or Baileys, as does hubby. I don't know if they sell them in Alabama. They are a small company. The Tahoes are cheaper than the Bailey's....we pay $8.99 a carton
Hubby smoked Vantage for years before switching to Camels, and I was a Salem smoker for years and years.
But if you are going to smoke cigarettes from one of the big boys, RJR is, to me, the least offensive of them all. They at least still make an effort to work with their customers.
As to being too lazy to make your own......using the machine that SheLion posted a picture of, hubby knocks out a carton in an hour while sitting watching TV.
