Good Morning SAM
To: SAMWolf
If our generals today are as skillful and determined as Sherman was, and get the outstanding support that President Lincoln provided, we will have no problems.

If our generals today conducted a war the way Sheman conducted his March to the Sea, there would not nothing standing between Basra and Baghdad except chimneys and there would not be so much as a strand of grain or a chicken left uneaten by the troops.

Homes in Georgia that were occupied were typically -not- biurned by Sherman's men. South Carolina got the treatment its leaders brought down on themselves though arrogance, hubris and treason.

My brother calld my earlier yesterday evening to tell me this. I posted is on the Canteen thread and on the DOSE thread lat last night, so my apologies to those who were already told this.
BTW, My dad is an Army veteran. Though he was too young for WWII and too late for Korea.

LSU was founded by the Louisiana General Assembly in 1853, with the first session beginning January 2, 1860.
Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College had its origin in certain land grants made by the United States government in 1806, 1811, and 1827 for use as a seminary of learning. In 1853, the Louisiana General Assembly established the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana near Pineville, Louisiana. The institution opened January 2, 1860, with Col. William Tecumseh Sherman as superintendent. The school closed June 30, 1861, because of the Civil War. It reopened on April 1, but was again closed on April 23, 1863, due to the invasion of the Red River Valley by the federal army. The losses sustained by the institution during the war were heavy.

Thanks for profiling the USS General Sherman. Wasn't it unusual to name ships after living people?

Oh Yeah , I realize that.
He is hated in the South, he was one of the first proponents of "total war" and unfortunately he ended up practicing it on fellow Americans.

Thanks for profiling the USS General Sherman. Wasn't it unusual to name ships after living people? Back in the Civil War days there really wasn't any standards for naming ships. In the 20th Century the Navy established naming standards for battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and the like and ships were not normally named for living people. But like so many traditions that went out the window over the course of the last 20 years.
