...Because honestly why should "soldiers" follow "orders"...???
Right Up Front ^ | 06/16/2008 | Katy L Vidales

US Army reservist Matthis Chiroux has made liberals across America quiver with excitment as he publicly refused to report to active duty.

Chiroux, a former sergeant in the US Army, has decided that since he does not agree with the Iraqi "occupation" that he is no longer obligated to follow orders.

After serving 5 years in the Army, Chiroux was honorably discharged and placed in the Individual Ready Reserves (IRR) which essentially serves as a resource of former soldiers who can, at any time, be reactivated during war time or during a national emergency...very similar to the standard military Reserve units through out the country.

For some strange reason, when Chiroux received his orders, he simply decided that since this is an "illegal and unconstitutional" war, he simply refused to go. Military Times wrote: "Many believe they (IRR) would never be called -- but when he army found itself stretched by unexpected combat demands in Iraq in the summer of 2004 it began issuing mobilization orders". Chiroux, former sergeant, should understand that while the US is still engaged in active conflict in foreign nations that is neither illegal or unconstitutional as it was declared by our President and made official by Congress, that he as a reservist MAY be contacted for deployment.

Chiroux and his father, a rocket scientist from Alabama believe this to be a "back-door draft" when in actuality it is what it is...a Reservist program instituted by the government to be used during time of conflict. I'm curious...when did Chiroux, after his discharge, fail to remember that while a reservist and under the command of the Commander in Chief, he was no longer obligated to respond to orders? C'mon people this isn't' ROCKET SCIENCE, and even it was he could simply ask his father to explain it...

I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to know that this guy is going to Leavenworth.

“...Because honestly why should “soldiers” follow “orders”...???”

As a soldier, you either follow orders or choose to go to prison. This kid has chosen the latter. I just hope that he has the balls to plead guilty and then do his time.

I laugh at the “back door draft” slogan. The phrase seems to have been created by folks who honestly do not know the definition of conscription.

That’s my point exactly. This kid knew what he was signing up for...there’s no clause in that contract that say you can get out of following orders as long as you dont “agree” with them. And all of a sudden this is news to him???

In the actual article he states that he is aware that he might go to prison,,,but he states it more as a sympathy plee rather than a point of fact...

Yes, perhaps this retard didn’t realize that he was signing up for an EIGHT YEAR ENLISTMENT, four years active four years ready reserve. It is hardly conscriptment to activate the ready reserve portion of the contract of a volunteer.

That being said, a soldier stows his political opinion under his bunk with his other gear and goes about his duty, IF he is really a soldier.

"Chiroux and his father, a rocket scientist from Alabama...."

Rockets, Alabama - must be Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville - the only military installation I have worked at where John Kerry bumper stickers (and such) are common, (ie: lots of looney lefties).

“there’s no clause in that contract that say you can get out of following orders as long as you dont “agree” with them.”

Actually there is. If you believe an order to be unlawful, then you are SUPPOSED to refuse it. Of course, you better be right.

Just give the creep a General Discharge and be done with it. Anything else will just play to the press and the Liberals.

well in this case his arguement is that the “occupation” is illegal and unconstitutional...I’m fairly certain the fact that this was declared by our President with approval from Congress makes it both legal and constitutional. Period.

You know what? I agree with you and I am one that thinks the war in Iraq was a pressing matter that needed to take attention away from Afganistan.

Legal? Yes.

Constitional? Probably.

Necessary? No.

Basically this kid is bound for prison and he deserves it.

This punk will still have to follow orders....
the orders will be given him by his prison guards at Leavenworth.

I’ll bet Cindy Sheehan is sending him love letters.

"Many believe they (IRR) would never be called --

The way the IRR was explained to me was that not only could I be called up at any time, I could be called to report to a nearby military base to check my fitness for service. Heck, I even worried that I'd get called over to Fort Drum or Griffiss AFB (nearest bases) for such a check and show up with my weight way out of regs, because I gained about forty pounds right after I got out.

And that was back in '94, when we didn't have a war going on and my career field was over 100% manned according to Air Force requirements.
