Veterans Day

A day set aside to honor our country's living veterans. At the Foxhole honoring veterans is a major part of our mission.

Whereas we will not forget those who died or our POW/MIAs, and those who are currently serving, today we specifically honor those men and women living among us who have served our country in times past, our living veterans.

Especially here at the Foxhole we are blessed to have veterans as part of our Foxhole family both as readers and contributors.


We would like to welcome all our veterans to the Foxhole on this very special day as we attempt to honor you and thank you for your service to our country. Freedom is not free and our debt to you and those gone before you can never fully be paid. May God richly bless you all. Welcome home and we will never forget.

It matters not where, when or how your served; here at home or in a foreign land, in the air, at sea or on land; in peacetime or in war, on the battefield or behind a desk; on supply lines; as an engineer, a mechanic, an infantrymen, a cook or medic. You chose to volunteer or fullfilled your duty by the draft and served America and we are forever grateful. Every job is important as they all support each other and the cause of freedom.

Some sacrifices are greater, yes, and some service more dangerous than others, yet all service is sacrifice by the troop and their family and we highly respect that service. Some gave all, all gave some.

Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

1742 English revivalist George Whitefield wrote in a letter: 'Plead His promises, be much in secret prayer, and never give God rest, till your soul is filled with all His fulness.'
1862 Birth of William (Billy) Sunday, American revivalist. Orphaned during the Civil War, Sunday became a major league baseball player 1883_91, then turned to evangelism in 1893, speaking to an estimated total audience of 100 million before his death in 1935.
1885 Birth of Haldor Lillenas, American hymnwriter. He penned nearly 4,000 Gospel texts and hymn tunes during his lifetime, including "It Is Glory Just to Walk With Him," Wonderful Grace of Jesus" and "Peace, Peace, Wonderful Peace."

SUPER NOVA SCOTIA
Canadian province turned to ashes in radioactive inferno!

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia -- At 6:29 p.m. on October 31, the Canadian province of Nova Scotia disappeared.
"It vanished in a blinding flash of light," said Al Deberon, a spokesperson for Lieutenant Governor William Gassjiant. "Miles of beautiful towns and countryside evaporated without warning -- it was horrible.
"And yet," said Deberon, "we knew this would happen one day.

We asked Deberon to elaborate.

"When the area was first settled in 1610, they knew it was different," he said. "The colonists always heard crackling and sizzling under the surface. Centuries later, government scientists discovered that most of the province was sitting on a bed of fissionable uranium. By then, it was too late to simply move somewhere else. Maine was taken."

It took several hours before a team in radiation suits could make their way to the epicenter of the blast.
"It appears that a resident was simply digging a hole in his backyard to plant a tree," said Deberon. "He obviously didn't know that a vein ran right under his house."

We asked why people remained knowing the region was unstable.

"Why do people move to Los Angeles with its earthquakes? Or to Kansas with its tornadoes?" said Deberon.
We pointed out that this was not California or the wheat - rich Great Plains but Nova Scotia. The chief export is lox.

"Well, it was still home," Deberon said.

"You just build a life and hope for the best.

"You know, most people don't realize that the to ashes in radioactive inferno! place was originally called 'Scotia,' " he added poignantly. "The 'Nova' was added when they realized that one day they could all be blown sky-high.
"The settlers may not have been terribly bright, but they were realists."

Darmeisha didn't like the neighbor woman Suzanne, but she still knocked at her door frequently. She was an unhappy 8-year-old who seemed to enjoy mocking people. Most of their conversations ended with Suzanne telling her that she needed to go home.

Suzanne didn't like Darmeisha, but she knew the little girl had reasons for her attitude—living in poverty, having no father in her life, and being neglected by her mother. So Suzanne asked the Lord to help her love Darmeisha. She began greeting her with a smile and showing an interest in her life. Darmeisha gradually warmed up to her and they became friends.

The girl is 13 now, and they are having a Bible study together. They talk about what it means to follow Jesus, because Darmeisha has given her life to Him.

Jesus took time for children. He was "greatly displeased" when the disciples wanted to keep the little ones away from Him, and He said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them" (Mark 10:13-14). He even said that we all must receive His kingdom as children do (v.15).

A 2004 Barna survey showed that 85 percent of Christians began their relationship with Jesus before age 14. So take time for the children. Reach out to the young. —Anne Cetas

In the last two weeks the niger seed has become very popular. Time to fill the black oilseed hoppers. Bird feeding season is back around here.

My wife is always calling "Look, look!" from the window. I go look, bunch of birds, you know, and my dear wife who does not have a mean bone in her body is thrilled.

I don't mean by her not having "a mean bone in her body" that she is endlessly bright and sunny, a sort of Heidi or Pollyanna. Heh.

So figure you two may be seeing inventory moving a bit better.

LOL. Yes, inventory is moving better. We are glad for the colder weather, folks want to feed more.

To get an appreciation for the flying critters you need to look at them through binoculars or sit a spell and watch their antics.

Ask your wife for me what type of birds she is getting at her feeder, then let me know. I'll show you some close-ups.
