Those of us who have been waiting for a politician to pick up on the monetary issue are perking up at Governor Palins demarche on the dollar. This came last week in a posting on her Facebook page, where she reacted to a report that Gulf oil producers were negotiating with Russia, China, Japan, and France to abandon the use of the dollar in pricing petroleum. She noted the report in the Wall Street Journal that Arab oil officials were denying the story, but reckoned that even the possibility of such talk weakens the dollar and renews fears about its continued viability as an international reserve currency. Then she pointed out that a United Nations official called for a new global reserve currency to replace the dollar and end our privilege to run up huge deficits. Most importantly, she warned about the price of gold, which that day had hit a record in what she called a response to fears about the weakened dollar.
Time will tell, but what this suggests is that the former governor of Alaska is ahead of the rest of the undeclared contenders in 2012...
So Mrs. Palins comments suggest shes savvier than many give her credit for being. No sooner did she issue her warning about the dollar than Reuters found a number of Republicans declaring she was right...
It is true that the only politician who has been campaigning on this issue, Ron Paul, failed to prosper at the polls. We would argue that had less to do with his monetary policy than other issues. Maybe he should have been a bidder for that famous lunch with the former Alaska governor. Were not ready to make endorsements, but Palin and Paul would make a whale of a ticket.

I think he's great on most issues, except for the part where he seems to be sleeping with Code Pink. The other campaign killer is that he looks like he might snap and open fire at any second.

Re: Neocon accusations, please go to the source herself. Here’s what Sarah said in Hong Kong:
“I am not talking about some U.S.-led democracy crusade. We cannot impose our values on other counties. Nor should we seek to ...”

So please stop spreading this accusation, thanks so much, CK.
I still think Paul would be good as Secretary of the Treasury.
Good one.
On other social issues as well. He is against the fed gov defining marriage. He does not believe the fedgov should do anything to counteract the homosexual rights agenda. He doesn't support a constitutional marriage amendment. Etc.
I'm fine with all of that. But the socons are not. They want to use the fedgov to pursue their aims, even when it's not constitutional.
Then there's the war on drugs. And I think the socons probably share a bit with the neocons, when it comes to our foreign policy role vis a vis Israel.
So while I am sure he's a fine man. He's not a socon. And that's pretty much a compliment.

Best post in awhile.
I am more of a Paul conservative than a Palin conservative.
I also am a social conservative but I don't believe the Fedzilla should be used to implement that. Terri Shiavo is a perfect example of what went wrong with politically active social conservatives
...Seems to be the legacy. His record seems to lean that way. He’s in the race for Sen. Bunnings seat. As much as I would like this amendment repealed, if it’s the law, I better vote. I support him for Senator from Kentucky...
Agree, Ron Paul will be retiring soon, maybe after this term.
i STRONGLY hope that it is more than one man (or woman) who replaces him.
Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Rand Paul, Paul Braun, Peter Schiff, and others are likely candidates to do so.
Although i like Ron Paul, and supported his bid for the Republican nomination, i hope the next spokesman is more articulate.
i'd even be happy with the spokesman that Ron Paul was during his Libertarian Presidential campaign back in 88.
Comparing the two runs, it becomes self-evident that age is taking it's toll on Paul.
>>>Ron Paul is 74 years old. He will be retiring soon. The question is who will carry on the Ron Paul REVOLution?
Cindy Sheehan can carry the torch. They agree on most issues it seems, and both are certifiable. It’s a natural.
Palin should go after the Federal Reserve. While Paul is a Jeffersonian, Palin is a strait out Jacksonian. I don’t see her as a Wilsonian Neo-Con at all, but rather a defend the homeland hawk. Reagan was a Jacksonian as well. We need an alliance between Jacksonians and Jeffersonians to drive the Hamitonians and Wilsonians out of the party. Palin can win back the Jacksonanian Democrats that Reagan won.
Paul won’t back any neocons, not saying Palin is one, but she need to drop her intervention urges or maybe she could compromise and work with Paul: As long as we’re working together I won’t intervene in foreign affairs
Paul can’t be the head of the ticket. It has to be Palin. She’s the one who gets the most votes, not Paul
Peter Schiff is more articulate than Ron Paul imho and has more charsima
I think conservatives needs to make a compromise to form a large coalition. And I think dropping intervening in foreign affairs could do it. Whats more important? Foreign countries or national affairs. Whats the point of having a free afghan/iraq if USA is no longer free
We can only hope that foreign policy experience is needed in 2012. As things look right now the 2012 race will be about Jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs. I hope Sara runs, it would be nice to be able to vote for a conserative again.
Schiff has two problems:
irwin schiff is a activist against federal government esp the income taxes. I don’t see that as a negative, besides its his father, not him
i have nothing personal or political against either Erwin or Peter Schiff. i would vote for Peter Schiff if i was a Republican and a resident of Connecticut.</disclaimer>
Most of the electorate see Irwin Schiff as a tax scufflaw. Informing the electorate isn't easy...remember, a majority voted for Barack Obama this last election...
They're going to paint the son with the same brush.
Never mind that Peter Schiff called the present collapse of the financial institutions correctly when every other talking head on television was saying how good things were, and were going to be.
It will be Willie Horton all over again. All Dodd will have to do is put up a graphic of Irwin Schiff with Peter, and then put up one of George H.W. and George W. Bush with the caption Like father, like son.
It may not be enough, Dodd has done a pretty good job of hurting himself this year.
First thing though is that Schiff has to get past the RINO that the national Republican committee is supporting for the nomination.
Most of the electorate is easily fooled.
Ron Paul attacks Sarah Palin as 'country club' Republican
Country-Clubber Ron Paul Says Moose Hunter Sarah Palin Is Country-Club Republican
Maybe some of the 2010 races (primary and general) will settle them down, perhaps even the two next month.
