COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.
Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.
At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.
Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.
Matty, you’ve said nothing of substance, nor demonstrated any level of sophistication or intellect whatsoever. If i wanted to hear a “me too” version of conservatism I’d be a McCain voter. Now please sir, hush up while the grown ups talk.
“if you want to win over voters from other candidates, you probably shouldnt be demeaning or insulting to them.”
I thought derision and mocking was standard FR posting protocol on Paul threads? Just look at the Keywords on this one:
“5percent; antiamerican; antisemite; appeaser; binladensboy; codepink; daviddukespresident; domesticenemy; endorsedbydu; fakeconservative; heeeeeeykoolaid; kook; kookcinichpaul; losertarian; moonbat; neonazi; nutjob; paulahmadinejad2008; paulestinian; pauliewannacracker; pimpsforpaul; racist; rino; ronaldapplewhite; ronnutters; ronpaul; rupaul; shrimpfest2007; soros; spammonkey; surrendermonkey; tehronpaul; thedailykoscandidate; treasonisthereason; wrongpaul;”
I understand the thinking, and of course a strong economy is a great weapon, a long term necessity for survival. However you have to keep the other guy from killing you in the meantime.
Well, that’s when you come down to the brass tacks man.
Reagan believed we would defeat the soviets because capitalism and liberty is a better system than communism and authoritarianism.
History proved him correct.
I believe if we can chuck off the yoke of socialism that we’ve been rolling to since the Cold War ended that the superiority of our ideas will dwarf them.
Take away the oil revenues and the king of saud is ruling from a mud hut.
I think a less splayed version of our foreign policy could do a lot of things for us.
#1 being getting the price of oil back to reasonable levels($30 a barrel pre-war $90 today)
Stated bluntly, I trust in the free market, above and beyond simple fiscal issues.
We can win through force of arms, and we should always maintain that ability to do so, but we can win permananetly through the superiority of our ideas. We just need to live up to them.
There’s another big issue I have, and feel free to wear me out about it, but there is very little difference between warfare and welfare. Both empower the federal government to do things we normally wouldn’t stand for.
The libs cry for welfare, and some conservatives cry for warfare, and each are equally convinced that what they ask for us vital to our success or survival.
When I say I’m not impressed with AQ, I mean I’m not afraid to go head to head with fundamentalist extremism based on merit.
At some point in time, our economy won’t be based on oil. Maybe 30 years, maybe a hundred, but likely in our lifetimes.
If the M.E. is still a backwards wasteland of despots and religious fanatics by then who will care?
“The idea, of course, is that Kim might think he could defeat the South, but not the U.S. The trip wire means he can’t try A without attacking B.”
Yup, i get the strategy, but we can’t stay there forever, and if we can we shouldn’t. I think our presence there is just as likely impeding reform as it is anything else.
Again, as a free market advocate I think S Korea is inherently superior to N Korea, and I think that we’re only delyaing what would be a very positive end for both countries(especially the people of N Korea, ugg)
S Korea’s army is vastly superior to lil Kim’s, the only thing that makes it at all interesting is if lil Kim uses a scorched earth tactic and destroys Seoul. A protracted battle of any sort means Kim’s head on a stick.
Who said that? You know its rude to put words in another persons mouth...? His foreign policy view is outdated. That view died with Pearl Harbor.
I didn't put any words into your mouth.
You stated that Paul was better suited for 1908 not 2008.
You made no reference to his foreign policy.
Ron Paul foreign policy also lines up with the Constitution.
There is nothing in the U.S. Constituion about going to war under U.N. resolutions.
I’m not anti-american. No matter how often you tell yourself I am it’s just a failing of your own.
You’re entitled to your backwards “ONE TRUE WAY” views, but it’s probably not a good idea to air your shortcomings in a public venue.
I’m happy for you that you’re politically involved and have a strong opinion on the subject. I look forward to a time that you can disagree civilly with other republicans about the issues without sounding like a playground bully.
Here’s hoping that time comes.
I wonder how many of those donations were made off of stolen credit cards THIS time?
You have a Master’s Degree, yet you still can neither form a sentence nor use correct punctuation? I’d be asking for my money back were I you.
Yep - before income tax, before gun control, before HEW, Before HUD, before BATF, before IRS, before EPA, yep HOW DID OUR GRANDPARENTS SURVIVE WITHOUT THE MASSIVE INTRUSIVE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO RUN THEIR LIVES? I'm sure you would just hate to roll the government back to what it was before FDR decided to go socialist.
example?
Just a different perspective here on North and South Korea based on the opinions of a few South Koreans.
Last month I was in Saigon on a business trip. Several people I ended up going to dinner with that night were South Korean Bankers (lots of investing going on in Saigon). I posed the question about removing our troops are keeping them in S/K.
The feelings are that most younger Koreans, 50’s and younger would like the US to leave. Older Koreans, who were around during the war, like the security. The government of S/K appreciates the aid the US sends them.
They informed me that S/K military is more than capable of defending themselves against N/K accept of course if they lob a couple of nuclear missiles into downtown Seoul. Makes sense, however, they added, the US would not be able to protect them from those same missiles.
Apparently the US is sitting on some prime real estate in downtown Seoul. We have agreed or already in the process of building a new base outside of Seoul so developers can utilize the prime property. Should cost a pretty penny to build a new base.
Also the developers and government are looking at the prospect of developing in the DMZ, once it is dismantled.
Who knows, in the next 5-10 years, we may be asked to leave South Korea for good as new thinking comes in to the government and the economic value and partnership out weighs the federal aid we provide them.
The wall came down in Berlin, maybe the same happens with Korea.
One can only hope. I’m honestly less concerned about S. Korea than I am Europe. They’re big boys and girls, they don’t need a 100 billion dollars in defense aid only to turn around and snub us whenever it’s convenient.
I realize we have some great and firm allies on the continent(at least on the island near the continent), but our relationship will only be better once they are required to adopt a responsible form of government, which will never happen so long as we foot the bill.
:)
I can only assume you refer to my lack of capitalization. It’s a habit. I doubt this is making it difficult to understand what I’m typing and more of a nit-pick, the goal of typing this of course, is to communicate my beliefs on the issue we’re discussing. feel free to join the party, or continue to mentally grade my online penmanship, whichever makes you happiest.
night all, ty for the convo.
Congratulations, everyone. Are his campaign commercials airing a lot in New Hampshire and Iowa?
If paul gets the nomination...
I will walk
