[Ron] Paul Raises $6 Million in 24-Hour Effort [December 16, 2007]

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.

Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.

At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.

Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul." The other side reads "Ron Paul Revolution." The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.

None. They just woke up one day, decided to strap bombs to themselves, and blow themselves up. /s

Actually, isn’t it common sense that our government’s foreign policy might have consequences? Our government’s chess-game-like intervention in the internal affairs of third-world countries across the sea over many decades has consequences. It has exacerbated terrorism. For example, the US presence in Iraq is what makes guys like Ahmadinejad more popular. Its presence in and support of Saudi Arabia gained Bin Laden much support in earlier years. We accept the fact that US foreign policy has consequences when we talk about the disastrous effects Carter and Clinton’s foreign policy had abroad. Why can’t we accept the same under Eisenhower, Nixon or Bush?

I’m up way to late and have to go to bed so this will be my last response here. I just hope we are all really careful in learning what every candidate believes and what they’ve done in politics, before making a decision on who to give our votes to.

enough of the texasmatty bullspit, you wont ever be taken seriously by claiming to see the future Mrs. Cleo. You may as well be posting for DUmmies. You are one and the same, and both have as much chance as predicting the next president.

We used to live in Pauls district when he first ran for office and we didn’t vote for him then and we won’t vote for him now. He is a fine man and a good doctor but he should have stuck to that. Does he have a strong candidate running against him for his seat?

What do you think when someone asks “why hasn’t George Bush caught Bin Laden yet?”. I think the same thing as when someone tells me “hillary is the smartest woman in the world”.

Lol. I’m not a GW hater. I voted for the dude twice. I just think we won the war the moment Saddam’s neck snapped and it’s time to declare victory and bring our men home.

virtually not a shot was fired that actually helped in the collapse of the Soviet Union

Interesting, but very naive position.

Military strength, the threat and willingness to use it in war and proxy wars was the major factor stopping Soviet expansionism during the Cold War. We likely wouldn't have made it to the collapse without it.

i cant agree with you there. USSR was doomed because communism is a doomed system. Reagan definitely sped it up masterfully. He was a true statesman, but the fall was inevitable.

he’s pulling democratic voters

So's Kucinich. I don't see either as a threat to win primaries or the general election.

There are a number of places around the world we could bring our men home from, why doesn’t anyone ever talk about those places? I happen to think, like our troops do, that we are accomplishing good things there, but the time will come for them to leave.

Yes, that's the point: a strong national defense. G'night.

and that’s fine, im not trying to convince you of his electability. What I’m saying is I’m a lifelong conservative, and I see merit in his candidacy, above any other candidate running.

I do think he can win, as tough a position that is to defend if you base it off national polls.

I think that Rudy is a RHINO, and Huck is worse than a RHINO. Hunter’s a great conservative but not a very good candidate, and I’m not at all impressed with Fred(as a candidate, his policies are great)

Ron Paul’s following however is not a ruckus. The MeetUp group I attend has over 400+ members

Perot had crowds too. It's the same kind of phenomenon in my view. A kind of True Believer crowd. They're active, they're loud, they're passionate.

What they aren't is very many.

I'll make you a bet. Texas is Paul's home state. I bet you he doesn't win the primary even there. I'll give you ten-to-one odds.

Paul has talked about bringing the troops home from those places too—often in fact. About the number of bases we have in Europe, Korea, Japan and how we should bring our troops home from there.

That view died with Pearl Harbor.

I'd be surprised if many Libertarians suggested we shouldn't have done anything about that. In fact, I don't think many Libertarians have suggested we should have done nothing about 911.

Yes, Chris Peden is doing very well and as it stands currently he is ahead in the polls. The 14th was recently redrawn and many folks don’t like waht they see in surrender monkey Leary.
