Ron Paul raises millions in today's Boston Tea Party event ($3.2 million @ 3:00 EST)
Boston Globe ^ | 12/16/07 | Michael Levenson

Posted on 12/16/2007 11:57:44 AM PST by traviskicks

On Nov. 5, supporters of Ron Paul raked in more than $4.2 million in donations in 24 hours, mostly of them collected over the Internet.

Today, they're at it again. Hoping to detonate what they call a "money bomb," the supporters started fundraising at midnight Saturday and have already raised $2 million as of about 10:30 a.m. today, more than at this point on Nov. 5, according to figures they posted online. They hope to collect a total of $10 million by midnight Sunday.

Last time, they tied their fundraising to Guy Fawkes Day, which commemorates a British mercenary who tried unsuccesfully to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. This time, they're seizing on the 234th aniversary of the Boston Tea Party and converging on this snowy city to rally.

They plan on gathering on the State House steps at 1 p.m. and parading down to Faneuil Hall, where they will listen to speeches in tune with Paul's libertarian platform. Speakers will include the Republican presidential candidate's son, Dr. Rand Paul, an eye surgeon, and Carla Howell, the libertarian who ran unsuccesfully for governor in 2002.

There are also plans to dump some tea (or at least some boxes labeled tea) into the Harbor, though the details were still sketchy as of this morning.

"Unfortunately this is not a PBS fundraiser. Those aren’t pledges, it is real fiat dollars."

Really?

You might want to tell the retards over at the village idiots silly little "tea party" site:

33,539 pledges at 12:00 am EST 12/16/07

I just don’t understand it. Given how close the last several elections have been, the Republican candidate will need every last vote to win. Why alienate and denigrate 5% of the party before the general race even begins?

Half-truths and smears against whom?

EVERYTHING that people like WCC and me post about your false idol is the TRUTH.

And I have yet to see one of you p’tards get enough backbone or intestinal fortitude to even try to “debunk” anything.....In other words you havn’t debunked jack sh*t.

It is people like you and your fellow brainwashed sheeple who have been duped by the BS sunshine that the two faced liar has blown up your fifth point of contact.

Yes, that's is the site on which people were supposed to make pledges of $100 dollars over the past couple of weeks. However, the actual donations are made on the offical Ron Paul site itself: www.ronpaul2008.com. As you can see, unlike the other candidates, Ron Paul's campaign keeps a minute by minute record of actual donations coming in over the Internet. Today, it has gone up by about $5 million in actual donations (so far). At least get your facts straight before you sign up to a message board for what appears to be the primary purpose of bashing a single candidate.

You are right, those are pledges. But we are discussing the actual cleared donations and not the pledges folks gave before todays event.

Many feel that, when the curtain closes in the voting booth, we will once again pull the lever for the anti-Clinton. They are probably right; most thinking conservatives and libertarians would vote for the candidate who is closer to their views rather than waste their vote or worse, stay home. The good news is that the executive is only one branch of government.

Really? And how did howard dean do with all of that “grassroots” support he got? Oh that’s right he FAILED! YEAAARRG!!!ROFL

Big difference. Dean's support, while grassroots, was driven by the campaign. This is not. Republicans have created a lot of p#ssed off conservatives who finally have a candidate saying what we've been saying for at least 20 years.

Just like the brownshirts were fanatical about hitler during his rise to power.

So a candidate whose message is freedom and liberty you compare to one of the most statist governments of the 20th century. I would try to explain your error in comparison but I'd be wasting my time. Good luck with your candidate. I'm sure he will do his utmost to advocate even more government intrusion. For 'our' health, or 'our' safety, or some such nonsense

Well, not the bit where you didn't know that the fundraiser today is actual donations. What else might you be factually wrong about...?

You don’t seem to know how this works.

Before 16DEC they asked for pledges counted by the number donors. On the 16th they count the cash.

You might think they’re retards, but they know how to bring in the cash.

Apparently. Newbie says as much on his profile page: "ron paul is to America as what adolph hitler was to Germany." Oh well, it's not much worse than what McLame said to Paul in the YouTube debate.

From 2CAVTrooper’s profile: “I have zero tolerance for idiots who think they know it all.”

Oh the irony!

So it's not okay for "911truth; 911truthers; antiamerican; antisemite; appeaser; binladensboy; codepink; daviddukespresident; domesticenemy; fundraising; heeeeeeeykoolaid; jihadisforpaul; lron; marines; moonbat; neonazi; paul; paulahmadinejad2008; paulbearers; paulistinians; pimpsforpaul; racist; rino; ronaldapplewhite; ronnutters; ronpaul; shrimpfest2007; surrendermonkey; tehranron; tehronpaul; treason; truther; wrongpaul;" voters to initially support Paul because, afterall, that's what they are being labeled as. But it's perfectly fine, if not expected, for them to support "the good guys" in November?

You might have misunderstood. I don't give a double flip what they do, think or say (sane or otherwise, coherent or otherwise), so long as their guy does not make a 3rd-party run in 08 -- because THAT is the only thing that can get the hildebeeste elected, notwithstanding all the paulistinian characterizations, which were yours, not mine. Support is not coveted. I just never appreciated the kid who kicked all the marbles away out of spite. That's what a 3rd-party run would be like, and just as childish.

After seeing that Paul is in the lead in my home state (Alaska) I think he’ll get my vote (Thompson’s a ways back). He wont win too many states, but at least he can have a presence at the RNC.

If he can just be a strong voice for limiting the growth of the federal government he will have done a great service. The GOP needs to get away from the current ‘we suck less’ mindset.

I agree, and I would probably do the same. If Huckabee or Guiliani ends up getting the nod though, I’ll vote third party. Having a RINO in office like those too would damage the country more than Hillary IMO. At least with a brief period out of power, the GOP could get back to its roots.
