I think Jim likes to let them hang themselves. Some folks like TravisKicks are good for actual discussion, however, others have hung themselves by throwing out conspiracy theory and personal attacks.

"More MSM hype of this sure loser. Anything to sow conflict in the GOP."

You are joking, right? Every time I turn on the MSM networks, all I hear about it McCain, Giuliani, and the other CFR candidates. They've been trying to avoid talking about him, as much as possible. As his support grows, it will be harder for them to not talk about him.

As far as 'sowing conflict.' Um... this IS an election. He is merely stating his beliefs, that he has had for a long time. If that conflicts with the RINO's like Giuliani, etc, then so be it. Maybe they should take a look at how far they have strayed from conservatism, into something that makes the 2 parties look like Coke and Pepsi.

You know the thing that gets me is that Paul is will to invoke this level of Hyperbole as a “serious” candidate for the highest.

Unless he really is delusional, he knows damn well this is all talk.

That, in concert with his war views makes him worse than stupid, it makes him irresponsible, unless like I said he really has lost it, then he is just nuts...

Yeah, it is just a coincidence Saddam asked for volunteers from his AIR FORCE for attacks against US interests around the world, SIX MONTHS before the attacks of 9/11.

How many Iraqis were on the 9-11 planes? I mean if he was asking for volunteers six months before then he should have had at least one, right?

I mean what point is it being a dictator if you can't even get one military guy to volunteer to help out in a strike against one of your enemies?

If Paul had his way Saddam would still be in power to rape and murder the innocent. We would then have Iran and Iraq racing to get nukes.

Racing to get nukes to use against each other.

If your concerned with the rape and murder of the innocent are you encouraging the US to topple the government of every country in the world that engages in that practice?

Personally I'd rather have the Sunnis and Shias killing each other over there, not uniting to fight us wherever they can. Guess which one of those options our President's foreign policy has led to?

“Yeah, like pinatas, something to beat on for fun...”

That thought had occurred to me recently. We’ll look back fondly when the Paul-lites were all the rage.

Killing a good portion of al-Queda that was stupid enough to take us on in Iraq and Afganistan?

I agree its reckless. We should plan maybe 10 or 20 years to start to slow govt. Then maybe another 20 to 30 to begin the actual process.

That would be more fitting, you have to give the systems time to get in place at the state level. There will still be a few stripped down Federal authorities that will have to remain due to 200 years of changes, but they will be small in numbers. Think FAA, CDC, some form of justice dept. and FBI and Tax collection, regardless of the future form of taxation.

Slogans are not ideas. Ideas involve HOW and WHAT the Candidate would do. So far Paul is just screaming slogans he has offered no ideas.

*****It is more than that. To disassemble the entire federal government even over just a few months would be a disaster. The states are not set up to accept the burden and there are systems in place that are necessary that can only operate at the Federal level.

Make it smaller yes, very much a desirable thing. But even that needs to take time.****

Ron Paul has repeatedly stated that he knows people have become dependent on a lot of these government programs and that he “will not throw anyone out in the streets.”

E.g. on SS and medicare, he would allow young people to opt out while protecting the older people dependent on those programs. He would do this by funding those programs with the money he saved from a less expensive foreign policy.

The article was very misleading on what Ron Paul would do and how fast he would try to accomplish his goals.

If you want to scare old people just keep telling them that Ron Paul would end SS for all.

What's reckless is voting in politicians that you know will continue feeding and growing the federal government against your own wishes.

I agree. And Ron Paul is one of them, regardless of what he 'tells' you.

If he wants smaller government why did he sign on to 1876 bills written by all those other congressmen the Paul supporters detest? In the same time, not one of Pauls sponsored bills ever went anywhere. He has been totally ineffective in all his years in the house.

Just for comparison of actual accomplishments in congress: Statistics: Duncan Hunter has sponsored 105 bills since Jan 7, 1997, of which 72 haven’t made it out of committee (Average)

and 10 were successfully enacted (Good, relative to peers).

Hunter has co-sponsored 894 bills during the same time period (Average, relative to peers).

Now take a look at Ron Paul, who claims many ‘accomplishments’

Statistics: Ronald Paul has sponsored 346 bills since Jan 7, 1997, of which 341 haven’t made it out of committee (Extremely Poor)

and 0 were successfully enacted .(Average, relative to peers).

Paul has co-sponsored 1876 bills during the same time period (Average, relative to peers)

"I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer, just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals--if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom, and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

Those are good questions.

Do you have a link listing the 1,876 bills he signed on to? By itself that number means nothing. For all I know those bills could have been seeking to abolish the IRS or Dept of Education.

The fact that none of them went anywhere lead me to believe that they would have somehow shrunk the Federal Governments power in some way.

I tried your link below and it only listed a few of the bills Paul has sponsored.
