'Listen and let it penetrate your heart, my dear little son. Do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle? In the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else you need'?-Words of Our Lady to St. Juan Diago-Guadalupe 1531
Aquero came, and Bernadette saw her approaching this time from the recesses of the grotto. Her heart was beating wildly, but she was determined that the woman in white would identify herself this time. On the fourth attempt, the vision stopped smiling and joined her hands in prayer, raising her eyes to heaven. "I am the Immaculate Conception," the woman told her.-Words of Our Lady to Bernadette Soubirous 1858
'I am the Lady of the Rosary', 'Pray the rosary, to obtain peace for the world.'-Our Lady at Fatima 1917

Ave Maria
Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee!
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but, in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

'When I was about nine years old, I had a dream that left a profound impression on me for the rest of my life. I dreamed that I was near my home, in a very large playing field where a crowd of children were having fun. Some were laughing, others were playing and not a few were cursing. I was so shocked at their language that I jumped into their midst, swinging wildly and shouting at them to stop. At that moment a Man appeared, nobly attired, with a manly and imposing bearing. He was clad with a white flowing mantle, and His face radiated such light that I could not look directly at Him. He called me by name and told me to place myself as leader of those boys, adding these words:
"You will have to win these friends of yours not with blows but with gentleness and kindness. So begin right now to show them that sin is ugly and virtue beautiful."
Confused and afraid, I replied that I was only a boy and unable to talk to these youngsters about religion. At that moment the fighting, shouting and cursing stopped, and the crowd of boys gathered around the Man who was talking. Almost unconsciouly, I asked:
"But how can you order me to do something that looks so impossible?"
'What seems so impossible you must achieve by being obedient and by acquiring knowledge."
"But where? How?"
"I will give you a Teacher under whose guidance you will learn and without whose help all knowledge becomes foolishness."
"But who are you?"
"I am the Son of her whom your mother has taught you to greet three times a day."
"My mother told me not to talk to people I don't know, unless she gives me permission. So please, tell me your name."
"Ask My Mother."
At that moment I saw beside Him a Lady of majestic appearance, wearing a beautiful mantle, glowing as bedecked with stars. She then placed her hand on my head and said: "In due time everything will be clear to you." -from 40 Dreams of St. John Bosco

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, the Feast of Our Lady's Nativity has been celebrated since the end of the 7th century and writings from St. Andrew of Crete (died 680) suggest that the feast was celebrated earlier than that.

They take this date as being exactly nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which is December 8th. Exactly 40 years ago today, the cornerstone was laid for my parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption. Tonight there will be a special service to pray the rosary, followed by Benediction. (in liberal Albany? This I have to see!)

Thank you for the beautiful pictures of Our Lady, can you post one of Our Lady of Guadalupe? It is my favorite apparition of her.

Thanks. Always curious about these non-biblical dates.
***They take this date as being exactly nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which is December 8th. ***
And that leads to the question of how they date the Immaculate Conception (Out of charity I won't question on this thread how they arrived at that doctrine)?

Happy birthday, Maria, Mater Dei.
(This is one of my favorite paintings. It is titled "The Girlhood of Mary Virgin" by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The figures depicted in this painting are St. Joseph in the background, St. Ann, and Mary. Rossetti also composed a poem that went with the painting.)
This is that blessed Mary, pre-elect
God's Virgin. Gone is a great while since she
Was young in Nazareth of Galilee.
Her kin she cherished with devout respect:
Her gifts were simpleness of intellect
And supreme patience. From her mother's knee
Faithful and hopeful; wise in charity;
Strong in grave peace; in duty circumspect.
So held she through her girlhood; as it were
An angel-watered lily, that near God
Grows, and is quiet. Till one dawn, at home,
She woke in her white bed, and had no fear
At all,-yet wept till sunshine, and felt awed;
Because the fulness of the time was come.

If I remember correctly, the celebration of the feast on that specific date goes all the way back to the Fourth Century (at least.)

Do you guys also remember papal birthdays? Just wondering if July 16th is free from the clutter of lesser events.

LOL. Nope, the only birthdays we remember are Jesus', Mary's, and John the Baptist's (June 24th). We have memorials of several popes throughout the year though (St. Peter, St. Pius V, St. Pius X for example).
