Why would a Calvinist bother with pick-up lines? Wouldn't the relationship's success be predestined regardless of what is said?

Even some Post-Vatican II Catholics do/did Forty Hours. That devotion was still part of my parish's yearly activities in the first ten years of my life.

No, it would be predestined that Calvinist pick-up lines would be used so the girl could respond to them in the way God predestined. The real question is, why would God predestine a pick-up line that would be unsuccessful?

Are you hooked up with a new Scout unit? You can go to here, punch in your zip code, and get the phone number of your local BSA Council. Call them, tell them where you live, and ask for your District Executive. He or she will be glad to tell you where the local units are, and can break it down to those sponsored by Catholic parishes if you so desire.

The DE's pretty busy (my Dad had the job once). But if you call him back I'm sure he'll respond. Most units are sponsored by churches, schools, PTA's, or veteran's or other fraternal organizations. I imagine your first choice would be whatever parish you join, or a local unit sponsored otherwise that would include the boys from your son's school. He could ask around the neighborhood kids to see what Pack they are in, or you could ask your neighbors. But the DE's your best source if you want a choice.

We'll be looking for a Pack near our new house, even if it's not a Catholic group. There's an elementary school nearby which likely has a pack. Billy's a first-year Webelo, and Tom's a Wolf Cub. Just as with choosing a parish, I want to find one as close as possible; we'll be more active if we don't have to drive across town. We were terribly spoiled back in Broken Arrow, with everything within 2 miles.

So, have you yourself been active as a Scouter, either as a leader or on the Pack Committee? I have to watch it; having been a Cubmaster or Scoutmaster for the last 11 years, I'm always trying to sign people up.

Now that I think about it, you might want to move on this quick because the Pack or one of it's Webelos Dens might have organized a summer camping experience that will be happening soon. I know that our Council is running Cub-Parent overnights for the next 3 weekends, and then there'll be four 4-day/3-night Adventure Camp sessions.

My husband has been a Den Leader for a couple of years for our older son. During the last year, he was into all kinds of stuff, teaching at camp, Wood
Badge, religious programs ... now that he has a JOB again, we'll have to wait and see how involved he can be!

I, personally, am a Daisy Girl Scout leader (kindergarten). We also need to find troops for our daughters. I should calm down, I guess; we've only been here 5 days!

Thanks for the heads-up on the camping. I'll definitely nag him to call the DE again tonight.
