Pat Madrid's Top Ten "ORTHODOX CATHOLIC PICK-UP LINES"
Envoy Magazine ^ | Patrick Madrid

Posted on 06/23/2003 1:21:31 PM PDT by Patrick Madrid

(Here's a little Envoy Magazine humor to brighten your day :)

10. May I offer you a light for that votive candle?

9. Hi there. My buddy and I were wondering if you would settle a dispute we're having. Do you think the word should be pronounced HOMEschooling, or homeSCHOOLing?

8. Sorry, but I couldn't help but noticing how cute you look in that ankle-length, shapeless, plaid jumper.

7. What's a nice girl like you doing at a First Saturday Rosary Cenacle like this?

6. You don't like the culture of death either? Wow! We have so much in common!

5. Let's get out of here. I know a much cozier little Catholic bookstore downtown.

4. I bet I can guess your confirmation name.

3. You've got stunning scapular-brown eyes.

2. Did you feel what I felt when we reached into the holy water font at the same time?

1. Confess here often?

Love it!

DrSteveJ, please meet Patrick Madrid, a (unlike us frank amateurs) "professional" Catholic apologist.

Patrick, please meet DrSteveJ, our in house Calvinist expert, protestant minister, and adopted next "Pope." (Its an ongoing joke, see DrSteveJ's Free Republic profile page. DrSteveJ is one of the kindest and most sincere non-Catholic debaters you will meet here.)

PM, I like your style (the RC Pick-Up Lines). And Poly, thanks for the kind introduction.

Patrick, I am curious what you think of Gerry Matatics? GM did his PhD work at Westminster Seminary and became a RC prior to doing a dissertation. I went through the same program prior to him and after eight years finally completed mine.

I am impressed with his ability to defend the RC position viz-viz historic Protestantism. Nevertheless, it is interesting to see his struggles with the modern, post Vatican II, church.

LOL! This entire list is great.

"HomeSCHOOLing Barbie comes with a denim nursing jumper, three pairs of Keds, and four sweatsuits, no two pieces the same color."

I'm wearing my denim nursing jumper today (who cares if I won't be nursing again until February), and a Catholic Cub Scouts t-shirt. Orthodox ladies rock!

I haven't had contact with him for about ten years. He had a well-publicized spat with Karl Keating, but that's old news now. I'm not sure what he's up to these days, except that he still seems to do some public speaking. As to what his current theological views are, I don't know.

Chortle! I dare you to say that in front of my husband ;-). (Note on the length - I keep telling MotherWear that just because a woman is ... er, rounded ... it doesn't mean she's six feet tall.)

p.s. On further reflection, HOMEschooling is the adjective, homeSCHOOLing is the noun or verb.

Gosh, are you the REAL Patrick Madrid? Way cool! I have to tell my kids!

Dear Tax-chick,

You just moved to North Carolina? If he hasn't already, make sure he transfers to a new Council!

Sigh. It took almost two years for the transfer from Norman, OK to Broken Arrow, OK to get through! I did send our new address to the insurance division.

We're checking out new parishes right now, which will determine what council he'll join. We went to a parish yesterday which is near our apartment, but not near our new house (i.e., house lot). Next week Father Ho Lung of the Missionaries of the Poor in Haiti will be there, so we have to go again! After that we'll try parishes nearer our permanent residence.

Rob's looking forward to meeting some new Knights. They were our main social group in Norman - in Broken Arrow it was Cub Scouts, but there's lots of overlap.
