Catholic/Protestant Post - San Antonio Cathedral Hosts Neo-Pagan Lay Liturgy

A parody of the Mass was held in the newly renovated San Fernando Cathedral - the oldest cathedral in the US - on April 29, 2003 when a ceremony honoring the pagan goddess Sophia was celebrated as part of an ecumenical event for Catholics and representatives of varius Protestant groups sponsored by the Pastoral Summit.
Though the chief celebrant of this pagan liturgy was a nun, Sr. Martha Ann Kirk, the liturgy was created by Fr. Jake Emperereur, S.J., vicar and liturgist at the cathedral.
The pagan liturgy, officially called a community worship service, opened with the congregation turning to the baptismal font at the entrance to the cathedral.
After the water in the baptismal font was sanctified in the name of Sophia and Wisdom, participants in the entrance procession danced toward and into the sanctuary, sprinkling the audience with this water.
Next an offertory meal of bread and wine and fruits was brought in, and a select group of three women ritualistically set the meal on the altar. Sr. Kirk then appeared to consecrate the bread, fruit and wine, and a communion-like sharing was held in which the overwhelming majority of the audience participatd by breaking a piece of bread from the large loaves and consuming it.
After a short skit about Kind David and Sophia, the troupe held an exit procession.
The Pastoral Summit, led by noted Catholic author Paul Wilkes, a leader in the movement to establish a lay-run church, will hold similar three-day events in Indianapolis, and Boston in coming months.
The featured speakers at the San Antonio event, held April 28, 29 and 30, were Notre Dame professor Scott Appleby and Ruby Bridges, who, as a little girl, symbolized the integration of New Orleans public schools.
In Indianapolis, June 17-19, featured speakers will be Ken Fong and Fr. David Cozzens, while in Boston, October 6-8, the featured speakers will be Alice McDermott and Huston Smith.
The sponsor of the Pastoral Summit was the Lilly Endowment, and attendees for the summit came from across the US to learn and share information on what makes successful worship and parishes.

"cute" ??? You must be spending too much time in the dungeon. These wicca types love whirling dances so the blender motion ought to be familiar. Gives new meaning to blended worship.
Pope Piel is honored to have a dedicated grand inquisitor. Within a decade of my elevation Torquemada will be forgotten name and the title CarDinaL will be abbreviated to C_D_L in honor of you.

No suprise to me... although such exhibitions cause my heart to ache, and yet also fills my soul with anger. This is exactly the sort of progressive heresy that I have written about in THE CHURCH COMPROMISED. The series consists of eight sections, which I have begun to post, and will continue over the next several days.

You must be spending too much time in the dungeon. Well Your fish n'chips, with all of the schismatics we've had recently, i've had to put in quite a bit of overtime, and i've always had this "thing" for redheads...did that costume come with spiked heels?
These wicca types love whirling dances so the blender motion ought to be familiar. Gives new meaning to blended worship.
i figure the alcohol combined with the razor sharp blender blades...maybe i'll dull them, makes for a more effective "interview", will probably get them to excercise their singing voices a bit.

Truly i am humbled Your fishy emminance

"I keep telling myself, "the gates of hell shall not prevail, the gates of hell shall not prevail." "
Remember that this quotation of Our Lord does not express that the Church will be insulated from the attacks of Satan; and neither do the words of Christ imply that His Church will survive wholly intact: only that She will not be utterly defeated in Her battle with the forces of darkness.
In Genesis we read that "The woman clothed with the Sun shall crush the serpant's head, while he shall lie in wait to strike at Her heel." Who is this "woman?" The word "woman" is referenced only four times in the Catholic Doay-Rheims Bible:
1.) The "woman" whom shall crush the head of the serpant;
2.) The Wedding in Cana, where Jesus performed His first public miracle (Jesus replied to His Mother, Mary, "Woman, what hath this to do with me, my time has not yet come?");
3.) The "woman" at the foot of The Cross, whom Jesus entrusted to the Apostle He loved - "Woman, behold thy son, son, behold thy Mother;"
4.) And, finally, we read in Revelation of the "woman" who is clothed with the Sun, having a crown of twelve stars, and the moon at Her feet.
The woman is Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, Queen of the saints, our Heavenly Mother and protector who revealed to the world at Fatima:
"ONLY I CAN HELP YOU."
We are told that one third of the stars in heaven shall be swept away, and their is a good argument that these "stars" are in fact the Catholic clergy. We will see much more of this until comes the abomination of desolation in the temple (the removal of the Eucharist ?)
PRAY THE ROSARY, DAILY.
PRAY FOR POOR SINNERS AND THE SOULS IN PURGATORY.
PRAY THAT THE POPE WILL CONSECRATE RUSSIA TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY.

I really like that choice of words! Gives new meaning to "Soldier for Christ."

Remember: before Mass is ever said in a novus ordo church, the altar and tabernacle need to be brought back - along with the gold chalice, etc. - and the church (and essential items for Mass, if need be) need to be re-consecrated.This is heresy for Roman Catholics; not for SSPXers though, apparently.
At least ultima ratio is reasonable. You're completely off into sedevacantism.
To: drstevej
You're as rational as any Catholic posting on these threads, my friend.
And more cordial and respectful than most.
I don't always respond to you, but I read every post you type on these threads.
Hang in here. There are chips-on-shoulders to knock off and high horses to tame.

Great post. Your insights on the use of "woman" and the stars of Revelation are points I had not considered before.

Christos Voskrese! Uh oh, another one of these threads! Say it ain't so!
***Your here to proslytize.Perhaps if you were more up front,I'd consider you less of a phoney.***
Come to think of it, evangelization is a call all Christians are expected by our Lord to act on. drstevej is civil and respectful in his discussions. I believe he's a minister. So, to the extent that he does, if, in fact he does, it is sorta his gig. I've never seen him refer to the Church as the "great Babylon whore" and other such nonsense. Nonsense which I'm coming to understand that some out there really do believe.
Besides, since a Protestant is nothing more than a Catholic with defienciencies (not that many "Catholics" in the Church have them /sarcasm), think of drstevej as 'partially Catholic'. Who knows, he could be elected Pope some day ;-)

Funny description. Reminds me of my priest (Epis.) that said we sit on a fence with feet in both camps!

A Zwinglian on the Lord's Supper, a 4 point Calvinist on the doctrines of grace, an Anabaptist on the ordinance of baptism and non-denominational independant ecclesiologically. I'll make a great Pope and my wife will be the best First-Lady the Vatican ever had.

Hmmmm..... Excellent!
'3 par' to honor the Blessed Trinity, and 'Totus Tuus' to honor Mary!
