I know I don't normally join in the discussions on the Catholic ping list, but I do appreciate them.

I also have a question that I hope someone on the forum can answer: I have noticed in the past few years that the language of the text has changed during Mass. For example, the theives are no longer refered to as "theives," but as "revolutionaries." Further, the conversation between Jesus and the Good Theif (aka Saint Dismas) is not read anymore.

Can anyone tell me why this has happened?

The ICEL (fancy name for the lectionary) was redone by US bishops. When the Pope finally got ahold of it, he condemned their translations and changes. So it is my understanding that we are on the way back to the original orthodox translations.

In the Daily Readings, I post from the USCCB site and then in a commentary I post from the Navarre Bible (Spain). I personally prefer the Navarre and Douay-Rheims translations to the New American Bible.

We will have to wait and see what happens here.
