You and Illbay can't be so myopic that you don't see the contradiction within your position.

Many Mormons and Catholics run to the moderators to complain that their faiths are "getting bashed" during every rigorous religious discussion.

Protestants "get bashed" not for their religious beliefs, but because they dare to engage in the debate at all. The few times one of you (or one of us, for that matter) challenges something, we don't yell "time-out." We stand and discuss; supposedly the purpose of any Religious Forum.

IMO, not much has changed since third grade, when various ninnies in the schoolyard couldn't play fair and threw tantrums and ate mud and whined to the teacher that everyone was "mean" to them.

Free Republic's creation has been a mighty force for good and truth.

But if Free Republic means turning back the clock 500 years to a time before those who "protested" were named Protestants, it's a shame beyond telling.

You guys need to grow up and have more faith in your own beliefs. Too much defensive carping, and you look very insecure.

OK, this is my last post on the topic, because honestly I've had enough of religious threads and am even growing sick of myself on religious threads. So here goes...

Many Mormons and Catholics run to the moderators to complain that their faiths are "getting bashed" during every rigorous religious discussion.

I can't speak for Illbay, but I personally rarely hit the abuse button. Maybe once or twice a week out of what I would say conservatively is a thousand religion posts I read a week. The only time I hit the abuse button is when someone's really gone over the edge. For example, someone trotting out the old "Church as Nazi collaborator" line wouldn't get the abuse button but someone calling the Pope a Nazi or an anti-Semite personally responsible for the death of 6 million Jews probably would. Especially if it's on a thread having nothing to do with the holocaust or the Pope, which frequently happens. It's the blatant offensiveness and the off-topic'ness or the attempt to hijack the thread that gets the abuse button pushed.

And even then, it's solely at the discretion of the moderator to pull the post. I don't personally pull the posts, and I don't have any friends that are moderators. Some of the posts I've hit the abuse button for have gotten pulled, some get warnings, some get ignored. Like I said, it's at their discretion, so if you feel that too many posts are being pulled, take t up with the moderators or the site owner.

Protestants "get bashed" not for their religious beliefs, but because they dare to engage in the debate at all.

Then we must be reading different threads. I see Catholics complaining when a Protestant rather snidely uses loaded words that are considered derogatory by Catholics, such as "Papolatry," "Mariolatry," "Romish," "Romanist," "Papist," and the rarely used "Popish," or refer to Communion wafers as "Christ cookies." That's just plain disrespectful and I have to believe that outside of ignorance, these words are intentionally used by certain Protestants to provoke and piss off Catholics. Some Catholics, including myself are guilty of doing the same the other way, calling people "Fundies" among other things (I honestly can't think of too many right now, as frankly, it's not as prevalent as the Catholic bashing words used) and you know what, I promise I'll stop using any loaded words, because it's not right either way.

Love it.

I prefer a more scientific approach, but hey....Polemics Happen!I guess the new rule is egalatarinism is more important than TRUTH.... How Postmodern.
