Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone?

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

Ahhh an honest man . The fact is that thread is more about vacations and jokes and sports and gifs than religious discussion and as such it is really a general thread. But hey you guys pay to play so I guess house rules say you can name it anything you want

Oh there's definitely some ugliness in my church's history (and in most others as well), I won't deny that. I do think they honestly believed they were indeed defending doctrine.

Al you and I have been friends a long time I figured you understood what I meant even if "Conservative" didn't. That was not a "slap" at the Catholic Church ..it was just a point.. There was a time when it was expected that men not only go to church on Sunday ..but that they defend their faith strongly. Today the general belief seems to be we need to go to go to the Rodney King school of theology "Cant we all just get along" Well if that is the purpose iof the religion forum her JR should close it down.There are a million RC forums out there..almost as many Mormon ones and alot of Protestand ones..

That way every group can find their own kind and all agree together that they are right and the rest are wrong and pat themselves on the back while they do it.

What MADE FR different was it allow the right of freedom of religion to play out ..and allowed people with different beliefs to engage in apologitics . But Rodney King has won and Luther and Erasmus have to go else where..Theyu just were not polite enough to post here

You're proving JR's point about bashing. You're proving my point that there is something going on with Protestants on a deep-down level that they cannot discuss religion without bashing Catholics.

Let's see, a you are drawing a conclusion from a sample of .... one poster. Kind of limited wouldn't you say?

....No, her post was PROVING my point. My conclusion is based on a couple years of observation of the religious threads. Her post is just one more example. Feel free to disagree, but this is how I see it and nothing you say is really going to convince me otherwise.

You know aside from Mom, i haven't seen anyone talking about the Catholic Church. In point of fact, some of us have included the Catholics as a group being oppressed by this recent trend. It isn't that long a thread, look up the posts yourself. FYI, we have been generally refering to Mormons, not Catholics.

...I'm not referring to just this thread. This thread is about the religion forums in general, and this is what I am referring to. It's completely relevant to discuss behavior on other threads. If you and a few other kind souls feel that the Catholics are 'persecuted' on the religion threads, thanks for your honesty. But you and the few others that are admitting this are also not the ones on the threads everyday bashing us. What I'm saying is, you're not the problem. It's people like rnmomof7 and quite a few others who I will not name for etiquette's sake who constantly bash and don't see a problem with it. That's really who I'm responding to and about.

I don't feel I'm smearing anyone. I'm making an observation which could be all correct, partially correct, mostly incorrect, or completely incorrect. We're not discussing if 2+2 = 4 or if the sky is blue. These are matters of opinion. Unfortunately, there is a rather loud majority of religiously-inclined Protestants on FR that feel it's their mission in life to piss on ("piss on" being my term for people who basically hijack a thread and change it's topic by provoking others) any Catholic thread with strawmen and prostelytization, even when the thread topic has nothing to do with anything a Protestant would be interested in.

Sorry if you feel that you're being put in the same bag as some of the bigots, but rather than be angry at me, maybe you should reserve a smidgen of anger for your fellow Protestants that wind up making the rest of you look bad via their actions and words? Because honestly, before I came on FR, I was blissfully unaware of the beliefs and attitudes that Protestants hold towards Catholics. The reason I think that a lot of Protestants on FR are bigots is because they're acting like bigots, not because I'm paranoid or hallucinating.

On the Neverending thread there are Catholics and Baptists and a Jew and many other different types of Christians.

We are not segregated. If I only went to a Cahtolic forum, to pat myself on the back, I would not have learned the things I did from the Baptists and others.

The Thread is exactly the point of a civil discussion. We don't need to be constantly at each others' throats. We got our mutual anathemas out of the way. Maybe you think that one should only associate with those one agrees with, but I do not.

But taking each day to remind (for example) my Baptist friends that they are going to hell if they don't go to Mass is not constructive.

I believe that part of living a Christ-like life is finding the Christ inside of everyone you meet.

I agree wholeheartedly. But I think faith generally can be defended civily. Like you said, we've been friends a long time (in fact, if I remember correctly, you were my first debate on FR) so you know I will gladly engage in a debate with people of other faiths provided they (and I) can keep our cool and not lash out at others. Once the lashing out starts, the debate is no longer a debate but more like a contest to see who can point out the worst of each other's church. That's not constructive and only increases the angst between faiths.
