I was told a time or two to "butt out" of the Catholic threads.
To: drstevej
There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum. Reduced in number as a large percent HAVE left for greener pastures due to censorship issues. You see, we can discuss Calvin, Wesley, Servetus, Augustine, Popes, Luther and thier shortcomings both personally and theologically.....but the minute Protestants mention Joseph Smith the topic is squashed and we are told to "knock it off".
We can discuss Catholic doctrine and Protestant doctrine - but Mormon doctrine is off limits.
Protestants get thier knuckles rapped - but certain posters can swear and post anti semitic comments and hateful rhetoric regarding Protestantism.
I suspect they have all gotten sick of the disproportionate censorship and departed.
[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.
This is no surprise, and thier departure is clearly reflected in the traffic stats for the site - no doubt this will translate to a dollar figure
Doesnt matter though - the republicans or certain sects will fill the coffers of thier shortfall
shake your boots off on the way out

Some of us have found places where honest discussion is allowed. No tattle-tale button for the whiners.

I would post more but I try to limit myself to one hour of internet time a night. Honestly, I don't know how many hours some of you spend on here but I suspect that it must be A LOT.
However, I am on here, as a lurker (though recently promoted to weatherman) fairly regularly and I too have noticed a real change in the tone and frequency of discussion. And, yes, I too would agree that there are specific members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who I would accuse of being directly responsible for severly inhibiting discussion and debate on this forum.
I can honestly say that I have learned a tremendous amount by being here and I really miss the knowledgeable and passionate discussion that used to prevail, so if many have indeed moved on to greener pastures, then I would hope someone would lend me their map so that I could tag along too.

I thought the slowdown in Religious posts was due to some of the more prolific Catholic posters (apologists) giving up Free Republic for Lent.
They'll be back, don't worry :=)

hey, has everyone here donated to FR yet? I mean, so that you still have a forum to beat each other over the head on?

If the number of Protestants posting to FR has decreased, it is because God immutably predestined it to be so -- and, therefore, the topic is not worth discussion.
Just kidding, Calvinists.

Steve, don't you think that many are just hanging out in the News/Activism Forum as well?
Speaking for myself, I have spent a lot more time there lately.

Where are all the Taoists? Zoroasterians? Wiccans?
Oh, I forgot. All of the above are in Ithaca and would never post on Free Republic.

Well, I'm a Catholic, but as far as I'm concerned, the more Protestants, the merrier. We need everyone we can get. And Catholics and Protestants need to learn how to rub along together and work on common interests.

Maybe they all converted to Catholicism ;-)
I came back to the Church three years ago because a Protestant friend attacked Catholicism, but I had no answers for him. I started reading and learning, and attending Mass weekly. I feel the Holy Spirit used my friend to get me off my lazy butt.
Many of the Protestants here have also challenged my faith, giving me the opportuntity to research and learn more about the richness and fullness of my Church. For the most part, I have enjoyed these discussions -- when they didn't get personal or petty and when those in conversation didn't resort to mean-spirited attacks and name-calling.
I've missed these debates, but I'm partly to blame. During the last trimester of my pregnancy, I was too tired to spend much time on FR, and now that my baby is 2 weeks old I still don't have the time or energy.
But if I'm pinged, I try to engage. Maybe everyone thinks we've said it all ...
God bless.
