Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone?
drstevej

Posted on 04/08/2003 10:29:25 AM PDT by drstevej

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

Should be "FRA"

That would be your title, since you're the one who likes to play hall monitor on all the vanity threads...

"We should be ashamed that Jim or the moderators ever has to get involved in a religious forum."

The crybabies made it happen.

I don't think Dale Earnhardt was a "hero."

I don't believe the Confederacy was a noble cause that was unjustly put down.

Now you've left preachin' and gone to meddlin'...

I respectfully have to disagree with you. It is a religious thread. If it were under general interest there would be the usual "this needs to be in the religious forum" crowd complaining.

12 posts about doctrine or scripture and 100 posts about vacations, basketball, motorcycles and tons of gifs.. It is not a religion thread cindy clearly half the posts are tripe

The pope never mentions Christ.
Catholics worship Mary.
The pope should shut up.
The pope drools.
The pope loves Saddam.
The pope is a criminal.
Catholics don't base their religion on the bible.

These are all COMMON forms of FR Catholic-bashing that have nothing to do with "disagreeing" with the Church.

If it's not your cup of tea, there are points of egress available.

I prefer to think of it as the "de-compartmentalization" of our respective faiths. We share and speak as friends, despite our differences. Should religious people only talk about religion?

Everything on this forum is "opinion." Often the opinions are based on fact, but two people may view the same fact, and draw different conclusions.

To me, it is evident that your little "hobby" is odious. It is hurtful to no end (oh, yes, I'm aware you are showing disrespect to my religious beliefs out of "love" for me and those who believe as I do. At least I am aware that's the fig-leaf).

If you do not have the ability to refute information which has been taken from the resources of your own religion, maybe you should not involve yourself in such discussions. I do understand that it is much easier for one to maintain that they are being attacked and brutalized as opposed to taking the time to refute information which has been posted.

You wouldn't dare do this to Jews, who don't even accept the Savior Jesus Christ at all, because you know you'd get slammed right off the site.

I have yet to be "slammed" off the site for my comments on any topic. I have yet to have posts removed due to my comments on any topic. I have yet to be placed in the "timeout chair" due to my comments on any topic. Can you make the same claim?

But you consider "Mormons" to be legitimate targets. It's very cowardly.

Incorrect. I expect Mormons to have the the mental capacity to support their beliefs when they are questioned. Resorting to the alert button is cowardly, asking questions based on religious documents is not.

"And I don't believe Israel's hands are clean in their dealings with the Palestinian Arabs."

IB, the problem with that view is that it completley overlooks the harsh reality of Israel having to defend it self against constant attacks, first in her history against many combined armies of the Arab countries, and now against the PLO (proppped up by the same Arab countries that attacked Israel in the MANY previous wars). Maybe "Israel's hands are not clean"...... they are fighting for their lives...... what can anyone expect?

Calling the Pope a "drooling moron" is uncalled for, but can there be a discussion of his dimished capacity???

But the point is that the actual act of calling the Pope a "drooling moron" eliminates the chance of discussion of his diminished capacity. Automatically, the Catholic is put in a defensive mode or is outright offended to the point of leaving the discussion before it starts. If someone wants to argue that the Pope has diminished mental capacities, then all they have to do is say that's what they think and why, preferably on a thread having something to do with the Pope (as opposed to say, a thread about the Shroud of Turin or something).

It's kind of akin to terrorism (no, I'm not saying that calling the Pope names is terrorism) in that even if there is a valid point to be made, it's negated by the mere act of terrorism in and of itself.

You're proving my point that there is something going on with Protestants on a deep-down level that they cannot discuss religion without bashing Catholics. If the Catholic Church didn't exist, would you have anything to talk about?

Bashing Protestants in the name of "let's stop the Protestants from bashing". How droll. No, I was making an observation. I then asked her to tell me if my observation is right or wrong by asking her a question. I don't get how you can read into this as Protestant-bashing, especially not in the line you bolded out.

No, I'm not shouting. I always respond to attributed text in bold. If you think italics might work better, I'll look into using that instead.
