Question: Why shouldn't I just read the Greek and Hebrew? Why should I use the King James translation? Answer: It is important that people in each generation learn and read the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, but there is also a danger some may face in this.
Why to Learn Greek and Hebrew As questions arise, each generation of believers needs to have Greek and Hebrew scholars that can look at the broad evidence of history. God uses history to testify that He kept His promise: God has indeed preserved His words.
The Danger
The problem is that many people think that a year or two of Greek or Hebrew qualifies them to translate their own Bibles. But they forget that in numerous languages, there are many words that can have one or more meanings, depending on the context. What they really do, though is take a dictionary or lexicon and pick whatever meaning they feel is right. But those who translated the King James Bible knew the Greek and Hebrew, like you or I might know the English language.
The following actually happened:
Shortly after the King James was translated, one of the translators, Dr. Kilbye, an expert in Hebrew and Greek, visited a church with his friend, Bishop Sanderson. In that church a young preacher spent a great deal of time criticizing words in the KJV and telling what he thought the Bible should say. He used up most of his time on one particular word.
That evening the young preacher was invited to dinner, along with Dr. Kilbye. Dr. Kilbye then told how they had looked at the three reasons given by the preacher, but then found thirteen better reasons to translate the word as it is.
This preacher (with more humility than most modern critics) admitted his error to the learned doctor and stopped preaching at that church.
The King James Bible was translated by people who were experts in the Hebrew and Greek. They reviewed every verse of the Bible fourteen times, and had to come to agreement on every word they used. This guaranteed that the Bible didn't just have some person's opinion in the text, like many modern perversions.
The King James Bible is God's expression in the English language, of His preserved words. He preserved them from the creation of the world to the present day. All of my Greek and Hebrew studies to this day have shown me that I can trust what God preserved in the King James Bible.

"Why shouldn't I just read the Greek and Hebrew? Why should I use the King James translation?" When you wish to go for a drive to the grocery store, do you enroll in a course of study in mechanical engineering in order to build the perfect car, lest the designers of commercially available mass produced vehicles deceive you with a less than ultimate car?
Do you spend decades studying the designs of all previous cars in order to determine their adequacy?
Will you be designing a car with seats that perfectly fit the modern derriere, which obviously differs from the 19th century derriere in such a way that few can comfotably sit in the existing models?
Will you be adding back in some engineering flaws that were rejected by past generations because they led to certain death on the highway?

You would have to be able to think in those languages to be able to understand the scriptures as God intended.
Moreover, you still have the issue of textual differences.

I can't take credit for what was written in Post 11. I like the King James. I think what Chick has sometimes interesting articles, like the one on CORN. Yet every time I see this sniped post it is so frustrating for it goes no where!
Also if Commander8 is going to post it at least excert yourself and post the whole article. why should I have to continue to click serveral pages to read the rest?
Commander8 you are one frustrading dude!
Stop tantalizing everyone with expectation of a good article, and it just this dead end click click!
All I ask is that Commander8 indicate if it is a (Chick)post!
At least I know if I want to click on or not!
Is that too much to ask?

Any reason why my using a greek and hebrew font to spell the word "spam" (post #4) is a reason to pull the post. I thought greek and Hebrew was an appropriate font for my analysis in light of the topic.
These KJVOnly threads are posted incessantly and are in my opinion spam. Is is it now forbidden to label repetetive articles as spam, or is it the use of foreign language fonts that is the offense?
Strange....

Even so, that's hardly a reason to yank a post. I didn't ask that it be pulled.
