Hello - My Mother (screename - ballina) would be proud as this is my first post on Free Republic. I'm hoping the right people read this message by posting it in the religious sections.
I'm very sad to say that my Mother passed away on July 13, 2002 from ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer last Thanksgiving Day (2001) when we brought her into the hospital for abdominal pain. (She probably stopped posting on this site around the same time.) She had surgery last December and followed through with a harsh 7 treatments of chemo drugs through the Spring. The chemo only did so much, including losing her hair of course. She then went back into the hospital in early June where she got progressively worse. The doctors finally said there was nothing else they could do so we moved her into the hospice area where they make the patients comfortable. She died the next day.
Throughout the entire horrible ordeal, my Mom kept her chin up, never complained, and always trusted in Jesus Christ. I always pray that God increases my faith and He certainly did by seeing how my Mother carried her cross.
My Mom loved this web site and was always posting messages, which was fitting because she was very religious and knew more political things than anyone I have ever known. She also talked about the other people on here, in particular a guy named "patent." So patent, I hope you read this message. Back in June, when my Mom was in the hospital, I brought my laptop in so she could browse the web. I think she asked you to pray for her, that she was very sick, so I would like to thank you for praying for her. I know she is with God now.
Justin P.S. If you still have that message, could you email it to me?
Please notify me via Freepmail if you would like to be added to or removed from the Prayer Ping list.
Prayer Ping for Son of Ballina as he remembers his mother's death.
I am sorry that she suffered and died and hope you are bearing up. Yhese first holidays will be painful for you to get through. I will pray for you as well as for her.Take care and join us every once in a while, and at least let us know how you are doing.
I think either we are talking past each other, or we have very different life experiences. While you seem to be quite cynical about "thirty-something" young women with their "materialistic cul-de-sac existence," I am much more hopeful. From my perspective, the majority of young women with whom I am in contact are serious, hard-working young mothers whose focus is the well-being of their families.
I agree there are many women in our country who fit your description, but I do not believe they are in the majority. I also believe there is a spiritual awakening taking place that bodes well for the future of our country. Young people seek certitude and they are discovering that what the world has to offer is indifference at best. It may take a little time for them to fight their way through the labyrinth of competing value systems, but in the end truth, sincerely sought, always triumphs.
..."among those in your circle of friends...they cannot retrieve the years they squandered in partying and promiscuity..."
I am afraid I did not make myself clear when I said some of my friends ..."wanted to party" for awhile. In no way did they become promiscuous. They simply wanted to delay the progression into a more mature lifestyle. You can "stay too long at the fair" without becoming promiscuous.
Perhaps you will think I see the world through rose-colored glasses, or that I live in Camelot. Not so. I do have a... wonderful life---with a husband and two sons whom I adore, but I am exposed to people of every stripe, and I am still gleefully hopeful.
Regards,
Ballina
