who reportedly knew their client was guilty because he was offering to lead police to the body as part of a plea bargain. That fell through when police discovered the body. But the defense attorneys went on to try to "create" reasonable doubt with scenarios they knew were completely false in order let a child-killer loose, perhaps to kill again, if they could get the jury to go along.

***

THIS IS WHAT IRKS ME ABOUT THOSE HERE WHO KNOW THEY LIE AND OTHERS WHO ALSO AND THEY GO ALONG WITH IT, THEY WANT TO DEFEND A DOCTRINE AND CALL IT JESUS WORDS YIKES!

ALL who do this your behavior is a disgrace to the LORD!

Many of us LDS have witness post after post of deception! How can you expect us to be friends with you, you have no shame or conscience! Reprobates!

but any lawyering skills that one might have can be used in defense of truth, or they can be used to attack it.

WM, I am frankly disappointed in your attacks on me. They are sooooo petty. You pretend to be the guradian of TRUTH when in fact you spend most of your time on these threads doing nothing more than obfuscating the truth and hiding the lies that your own Church Leaders have told over the last 170 years.

Don't pretend that you have ever taken the high road because you haven't. If anyone around here has behaved like a corrupt criminal defense lawyer it is YOU!

You have had several threads yanked. Why? Because the TRUTH of the LDS Church has been exposed and to you the TRUTH is that last thing that you want anyone who hasn't sworn a blood oath to the Mormon god to know about. You hide the truth at every turn and rather than try to refute the criticisms of the LDS Church, you pretend to be pious and accuse those of us who point out the errors and hypocrisy of your leaders of being anti-Mormon bigots.

We are not anti-mormons. We are defenders of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ against those who would pervert it. And the LDS doctrines are nothing more than a blatant perversion of the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I have asked you dozens of times to refute anything that I have said. You haven't even tried. Why? I believe it is because you have no ammunition in your arsenal to refute anything I have said.

Mormonism is paganism with a perverted Christian dictionary. I honestly believe that. If you don't believe it yourself, then tell me where I am wrong. Don't hide the evidence like a squirilly slimy criminal defense lawyer who knows his client is guilty. Let the evidence come out. But like in any trial the more evidence that is introduced, the more likely it is that the truth will come out in the end.

I will repeat it. If ANYONE has acted like a slimy criminal defense lawyer around here it has been you. So get off your high horse and either debate me point by point, or quit whining about how evil I am.

Your only hope in this case is that you will continue to gather in an ignorant jury pool. Well there are OJ jurors out there. There are people who refuse to be persuaded by the evidence. Those people have a "gut" feeling about a case from the beginning and refuse to be persuaded regardless of the mountain of evidence that contradicts their "gut feeling". That is why you guys always fall back on your burning bosom experience. It is your shelter from the truth. Well get used to that burning feeling. You may have it for an eternity.

CTD your assessment below has been demonstrated to be right on target:

Any Mormon, at FreeRepublic or elsewhere, that would dare take up the challenge of debating P-Marlowe on the truth or falsity of Mormonism needs to keep the following in mind:

1. P-Marlowe is a former Mormon who is very knowledgeable on both the history and doctrines of the Mormon church.

2. He answers all questions asked; in detail, with supporting citations to the historical record. He also demands that his opponent do the same.

3. He is a lawyer, and based on his skills in logical think as demonstrated on these threads, probably a formidable foe in a courtroom at either trial or on appeal. I would guess that he drafts legal briefs that are far superior than those of his opponents.

4. He is likely extremely intelligent and may have what is called a random-analytical thinking style. It appears he is able to assimilate great quanties of information and readily distill the data, and then focus on the important stuff.

5. And finally, he has what debaters and lawyers prefer above all else. He has a great set of facts!

1. P-Marlowe is a former Mormon who is very knowledgeable on both the history and doctrines of the Mormon church.

My observation has been that he understood LDS doctrine very poorly and I suspected that he either wasn't a Mormon very long or else didn't bother to learn much.

3. He is a lawyer,

Yeah, that does explain some things... You don't always have to understand things to be a successful lawyer. It does help to know how to spin things.

4. He is likely extremely intelligent and may have what is called a random-analytical thinking style. It appears he is able to assimilate great quanties of information and readily distill the data, and then focus on the important stuff.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. So what? I never tell anyone this but since I'm somewhat anonymous here... When I graduated from college with a masters degree in engineering I had a professor tell me in an exit interview that I was possibly the smartest person who had ever been through their program. And yet I grew up going through school with "oh, you must be so-and-so's little brother. Are you as smart as he is?" (I'm not, BTW). Anyway, my bro did doctoral and post-doctoral work at three of the most prestigious universities in America. That and 65 cents will get you a (decaffeinated) Coke from the Coke machine. What matters is what you do with your intelligence (and I've done quite well so far, thanks for wondering).

***My observation has been that he [P-Marlowe] understood LDS doctrine very poorly and I suspected that he either wasn't a Mormon very long or else didn't bother to learn much.***

Fine. Demonstrate that your observation has merits and is not just a cheap shot.

***When I graduated from college with a masters degree in engineering I had a professor tell me in an exit interview that I was possibly the smartest person who had ever been through their program. ***

I do not doubt this. Show us and P-Marlowe that Mormonism is credible. The Cordial Discussion awaits you.

All your fellow travellers have head for the hills.

***What matters is what you do with your intelligence (and I've done quite well so far, thanks for wondering). ***

Here's your chance to use that God given intellegence to "give a reason" for your restorationist hope.

Is there any hope remaining? SHOW US

WHAT'S THIS!

The LDS Church now is the sixth-largest religious body in the nation, with 4,224,026 members, inching just ahead of the the Presbyterians, with 3,141,566.

I guess I'd have to refer you back to my #26 on this thread. I've been participating in what you're suggesting for years now -- sometimes cordial and sometimes less cordial. But the end result is it doesn't accomplish anything. If I get more time I still may change my mind. For the next week or two I'm pretty busy.
