My Priest Fr. Christopher G. Phillips of Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX will be the guest on The Journey Home on EWTN tonight August 12th at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central.
He was the first Priest ordained under the Pastoral Provision which allowed for certain married clergy of other faiths to become Roman Catholic Priests, and for the establishment of Anglican Use Parishes in the Roman Catholic Church.
He recently celebrated the Anglican Use Mass at Mother Angelica's Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, AL. He has also been featured on past EWTN specials, I am the Living Bread, and This is My Body. Please tune in, and if you have any questions to submit via email or phone, utilize that segment of the program.
Attention ALL CATHOLIC FREEPERS. EWTN is having some financial difficulties right now. If you can "spare a dime", you can make a donation at their web site. Anything you give will be greatly appreciated. Just look at the programming they have given us ... Journey Home is one of the best shows!!
He's very cool!
What a truly awesome priest! And what an incredible journey he traveled to arrive at the Catholic Church. The program was so fascinating that I found myself taking notes. Just loved his story of traveling to MA on Sunday, listening to the only radio station he had and learning to pray the rosary. Another minister might well have purchased a new radio, but Fr. Phillips took it all in stride. And, what about the Methodist communion service with grape juice and bread, celebrated quarterly. Fr. Phillips intense desire to hold Christ and holding the monstrance on Corpus Christi - the parallels between the two events - as a Presbyterian minister vs as a Catholic priest.
The emails and calls to the program were also interesting. The Episcopalian mother who called looking for some justification for the communion service in her church ... it was so poignant. Fr. Phillips gave an excellent response. The sister who attended his mass in Alabama and wanted the viewers to gain a better understanding of the service. That was great. As fate would have it, two phone calls and one doorbell interrupted the program for me.
Would that there was an Anglican Use parish nearby, it sounds like the type of service that many of us catholic freepers could genuinely appreciate.
Thanks again, sock, for posting this. I would have been upset if I had missed the program.
The sister, Elizabeth Marie, who called in, is a former Parishioner of Fr. Phillips'. She was blessed that he was allowed to celebrate an Anglican Use Mass and awesome homily, as well as preside over her first Profession of Vows at Mother Angelica's Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville last month.
I was especially glad to hear her phone call-I'm her Mommy!
You must be so very proud of her! I wish there were videotapes of these masses so that we could get a feel for them. I was so intrigued by Fr. Phillips discussion on The Book of Common Prayer. I had no idea that it was a translation from Latin to English. How wonderful to be in a parish where there are so many converts coming into the church.
On a somewhat related note, I'd like to offer a book reccomendation for Rome Sweet Home by Scott and Kimberly Hahn about their conversion.
Okay, okay, I'll admit I haven't actually read the book yet. I received it as a birthday present this weekend and my wife swiped it. She devoured the book in a few hours and has not stopped talking about it.
