WAY OF THE CROSS

Actor Robert Legere, of St.Louis-de-Kent, New Brunswick, portraying Jesus Christ, reenacts the crucifixion as part of the World Youth Day celebrations, in Toronto, Ont. on Friday July 26, 2002.
An actor playing Jesus depicts the tortured stages of Christ's passage to the cross. He too is condemned to death, takes up his cross, falls under its weight and ultimately is hoisted above the crowd on that same crude frame.
Realism, said Ms. Parsons, is the objective. "It's an attempt to bring home the scarifices Jesus made for us."

Those who can pick up EWTN are so fortunate! Thanks for this thread.I just posted another one on it:
"A relentless tide of World Youth Day pilgrims flooded University Avenue to participate in the way of the cross, a moving passion play depicting the suffering and death of Jesus Christ and penned by John Paul himself."

Was JPII present? I couldn't watch it long enough to find out. Thanks, salvation for letting us know JPII wrote the text JPII watched the nearly hour Way of the Cross from his retreat on Strawberry Island.
Colleen, the narration included JPII's text for each station. It was like a history lesson. For example, the name Veronica was not really hers. The name is derived from "vero" "icon" or "true image". Truly interesting was the exchange between Pilate, the Sanhedrin and Jesus. Though I watched the program 3 times (8pm Friday, 1am Saturday and 1pm Saturday), there was more information than I could absorb. Let's hope that EWTN can condense this down in a videotape format for sale.

Do you know if they will be offering a video of this incredible event??? I teached Catechism and would love to show it to my students. I think it would be a powerful presentation. All we can do is email Raymond Arroyo or EWTN directly and request it. (Could be a fund-raiser for the Catholic Youth of the World.)
Oh, darn, there I go again, thinking about money----------------------------------------------------------LOL!

Great event! I have emailed EWTN and asked if they will be
selling this on videotape. Once I get a response, will let everyone know.

Nevertheless, a vast sea of people on University street, such as has never been assembled in downtown Toronto, attentively stood through the whole thing. Astonishing, isn't it?! I have been watching the pope's arrival in Mexico. The entire country will be shut down tomorrow. They expect 12 million to attend the papal mass on Wednesday .... 12 million!!!
It's dark in Mexico right now but the streets are 6 deep with people waving flags, tossing confetti and holding candles to welcome the pope! There is not even one small void in the crowd. The welcoming ceremony at the airport was absolutely fantastic!

Thank you for "resurrecting" this post. I wish EWTN would have rerun this Youth Day segment, today. It was so moving.
