Sister Agnes Sasagawa

The apparitions in Akita, Japan lasted from 1973 to 1982 and regarded dire events that were to befall humanity in the near future.         The apparitions occurred through the statue pictured at the left. The statue is made of Judea wood and depicts the Virgin Mary standing on a globe in front of a cross. That statue itself bled from a stigmatized wound in its right hand and sweated large quantities of perfume as well as cried actual tears on over 100 occasions. Meticulous study was done on the blood collected from the statue as well as the perfume. No explanation could be found and they were deemed to be of supernatural origin.         The message of Akita is another message to the world about impending disasters. The message tells us that more people will perish than ever in the history of the world. It will be unprecedented. Billions will lose their lives. The Virgin Mary gave her messages to Sr. Agnes Sasagwa, and warned her that what was coming would be worse than the Deluge (The Flood in the time of Noah). The Blessed Virgin warned her: "......If men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead." It should be clear to most people what the Virgin Mary is talking about here. A Nuclear disaster on a global scale. The effects of radiation on those surviving a nuclear blast leaves them sick with radiation poisoning to die a horrible, slow death.         Sr. Agnes also was witness to brilliant light emanating from within the tabernacle and wreathing the entire alter in a red-gold flames. On another occasion a fog hovered around the alter and there were angels there kneeling in adoration.         On another occasion, while Sr. Agnes was beginning to pray the Rosary, just as she touched the beads even, her guardian angel appeared at her side. The angel recited the Rosary with Sr. Agnes and then vanished. Agnes recognized this angel however. She had seen him years earlier while lying in a coma in a Myoko hospital.  Then, without knowing what she was doing, she began to recite the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Gloria, and the Apostles Creed in Latin, though she did not know the language. While in her coma, she saw an angel appear on her right side. They recited the Rosary together and at the end of each decade the angel instructed Sr. Agnes to add these words: "Oh my Jesus, forgives us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven and especially those in most need of your mercy."        Sr. Agnes, after recovering, learned that this was the same prayer given to the visionaries of Fatima by the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the night of June 29 as Sr. Agnes and her guardian angel prayed the Rosary together, a brilliant fog appeared all about the altar. A large number of angels were chanting, "Holy, Holy, Holy". Then an angelic  voice on the Sister's side started praying the prayer of the Handmaids of the Eucharist:        "Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, present in the Holy Eucharist, I consecrate my body and soul to be entirely one with Your Heart, being sacrificed at every instant on all the altars of the world and giving praise to the Father, pleading for the coming of His Kingdom.         "Please receive this humble offering of myself. use me as You will for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls.        "Most Holy Mother of God, never let me be separated from Your Divine Son. Please defend and protect me as Your special child."        Sister Agnes later felt a sharp prick in her left hand. Upon observing it looked to be a red colored cross. As she was praying the Rosary with her guardian angel on June 5th she felt a terrible pain in her left hand. Blood was flowing from the puncture. Sr. Agnes could not sleep because of the pain and arose at 3 am at which time her guardian angel appeared to her and said:        "Do not fear. Pray with fervor not only because of your sins, but in reparation for those of all men. The world today wounds the most Sacred Heart of Our Lord by its ingratitude and injuries. The wounds of Mary are much deeper and more sorrowful than yours. Let us go to pray together in the chapel." The angel then led Sr. Agnes to the chapel then disappeared. Sr Agnes began to pray the Rosary before the wooden statue of Our Lady of All Peoples  when a light of indescribable magnitude burst forth and a voice more beautiful than any angel spoke. It was the Blessed Virgin Mary: "My daughter, my novice, you have obeyed me well in abandoning all to follow me. Is the infirmity of your ears painful? Your deafness will be healed, be sure. Be patient. It is the last trial. Does the wound of your hand cause you to suffer? Pray in reparation for the sins of men. Each person in this community is my irreplaceable daughter. Do you say well the prayer of the Handmaids of the Eucharist? Then, let us pray together." While they prayed Sr. Agnes guardian angel joined in. As they came to the part, "Jesus present in the Eucharist," Mary paused and told Sr. Agnes that from now on she should say "Truly present." After the prayer Mary said: "Pray very much for the Pope, Bishops and Priests. Since your Baptism you have always prayed faithfully for them. Continue to pray very much.....very much. Tell your superior all that passed today and obey him in everything that he will tell. He has asked that you pray with fervor."  Sister Agnes asked the Mistress of Novices that morning to check the hands of the statue of Mary. She did so and saw that in the middle of Mary's right hand was a thin cross in black and from it blood flowed from a tiny hole. The sisters fell prostrate before the statue. As time went on the bleeding became more real as if the hands were actual hands. The bleeding always coincided with Catholic feast day and the bleeding of Sr. Agnes own hand.         In July of 1973 a terrible pain pierced the left hand of Sr. Agnes and she fell to the ground. Her guardian angel appeared: "Your sufferings will end today. Carefully engrave in the depth of your heart the thought of the blood of Mary. The blood shed by Mary has a profound meaning. This precious blood was shed to ask your conversion, to ask for peace, in reparation for the ingratitude and the outrages towards the Lord. As with devotion to the Sacred Heart, apply yourself to devotion to the most Precious Blood. Pray in reparation for all men. Say to your superior that the blood is shed today for the last time. Your pain also ends today. Tell them what happened today. He will understand all immediately. And you, observe his directions." The angel smiled at Sr. Agnes and vanished. The pain in her hand vanished as well.         In August of that same year Sr. Agnes again heard the voice of Mary from the statue: "My daughter, my novice, do you love the Lord? If you love the Lord, listen to what I have to say to you.        "It is very important. You will convey it to your superior.        "Many men in the world afflict the Lord. I desire souls to console Him to soften the anger of the Heavenly Father. I wish, with my Son, for souls who will repair by their suffering and their poverty for the sinners and the ingrates.        "In order that the world might know His anger, the Heavenly Father is preparing to inflict a great chastisement on all mankind. With my Son, I have intervened so many times to appease the wrath of the Father. I have prevented the coming of calamities by offering Him the suffering of the Son of the Cross, His Precious Blood, and beloved souls who console Him forming a cohort of victim souls. Prayer, penance and courageous sacrifices can soften the Father's anger. I desire this also from your community...that is love poverty, that it sanctify itself and pray in reparation for the ingratitudes and outrages of so many men. Recite the prayer of the Handmaid of the Eucharist with awareness of its meaning; put it into practice; offer in reparation for sins. Let each one endeavor, according to capacity and position, to offer herself entirely for the Lord."        "Even in a secular institute prayer is necessary. Already souls who wish to pray are on their way to being gathered together. Without attracting too much attention to the form, be faithful and fervent in prayer to console the Master.        "Is what you think in your heart true? Are you truly decided to become the rejected stone?  My novice, you who wish to belong without reserve to the Lord, to become the spouse worthy of the Spouse make your vows knowing that you must be fastened to the Cross with three nails. These nails are poverty, chastity and obedience. Of the three, obedience is the foundation. In total abandon, let yourself be led by your superior. He will know how to understand you and direct you." It would come to pass that the statue would bleed one last time on July 27, 1973. The sweet smell from the perfume stayed in the church for some time. When studied by a forensic psychologist it was found that the 'perfume' was actually human sweat. On the anniversary of the miracle of Fatima, the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Agnes again: "My dear daughter, listen well to what I say to you. You will inform your superior."        "As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary, With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests.        "The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against other bishops. THe priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confrers....churches and altars sacked: the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.        "The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of My sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them.         "With courage, speak to your superior. He will know how to encourage each of you to pray and to accomplish works of reparation......... "Pray very much the prayers of the Rosary. I alone am able still to save you from the calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved."        This is a vital message. It foretells the coming division within the Church and the dwindling of priests and religious to the evil one. It also warns us of a loss of Catholic doctrine and the hostility to those who are devoted to Mary as well as a terrible chastisement, the only protection which is devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.         The Blessed Virgin Mary and Sr. Agnes' guardian angel were not the only ones to visit her with apparitions. She was visited by the devil as well. He appeared in a dark, swarthy form and had long claws. On one occasion he grabbed Sr. Agnes and tried to prevent her from going to the chapel. On yet another occasion, as she was praying for the conversion of a dying unbeliever, a horrifying darkness appeared behind the soul of the person she had saved and reached out to grab Sr. Agnes at which point she fainted. Sr. Agnes' guardian angel was protecting her however and so Satan could not prevent her from her course.         In January of 1975, as the statue of the Virgin Mary  was weeping for the first time, the guardian angel appeared: "The Holy Virgin.....loves Japan. She has therefore chosen this land of Akita to communicate Her messages....She awaits you with open arms to pour forth graces. Spread devotion to the Virgin."        On the Feast of the Visitation, the color of Mary's face changed on the statue it also seemed to change expressions. On May 18 the guardian angel appeared again to announce Sr. Agnes' healing: "You will hear, you will be healed. But that will last for only a moment because the Lord still wishes this offering and you will become deaf again. In seeing that your ears are restored again, the heart of those who still doubt will melt and they will believe. Have confidence and pray with good intention...."        Nearly a year later Sr. Agnes was again visited by her guardian angel: "Do not be surprised to see the Blessed Virgin weeping. She weeps because she wishes the conversion of the greatest number; She desires that souls be consecrated to Jesus and to the Father by Her intercession.         "He who directs you told you during the last sermon today; your faith diminishes when you do not see. It is because your faith is weak. The Blessed Virgin rejoices in the consecration of Japan to Her Immaculate Heart because She loves Japan. But She is sad to see that this devotion is not taken seriously. Even though She has chosen this land of Akita to give Her messages, the local pastor doesn't dare to come for fear of what one would say. Do not be afraid. The Blessed Virgin awaits you all. Her hands extended to pour forth graces. Spread devotion to the Virgin.        "You who have believed while seeing the tears of Mary, when you have permission of your superior speak to the greatest number in order to console the hearts of Jesus and Mary. Spread this devotion with courage for their greater glory...." Four months later over fifty witnesses saw the statue change in ways that science could not account for. Sister Agnes' guardian angel visited her again: "Many men in this world afflict the Lord. Our Lady awaits souls to console Him. Remain in poverty, sanctify yourself and pray in reparation of the ingratitudes and the outrages of so many men. The Rosary is your weapon. Say it with care and more often for the intention of the pope, bishops and priests. "You must not forget these words [of Mary]. The Blessed Virgin prays continually for the conversion of the greatest possible number and weeps, hoping to lead to Jesus and the Father souls offered to Them by Her intercession. For this intention, and to overcome exterior obstacles, achieve interior unity, from a single heart. Let believers lead a life more worthy of believers! Pray with a new heart....." On the 15th of September 1981 the statue wept for the 101st time. It would also be the final time. Weeks late Sr. Agnes received a vision of a large bible. It was open to Genesis 3:15. Her guardian angel explained the importance of 101: "There is meaning to the figure one hundred and one. This signifies that sin came into the world by a woman and it is also by a woman that salvation came to the world. The zero between the two signifies the Eternal God who is from all eternity until eternity. The first one presents Eve and the last one the Virgin Mary..." Thousands of healings and conversions have come about because of the apparitions at Akita.

THE EVENTS

The extraordinary events began on June 12, 1973, when Sr.. Agnes saw brilliant mysterious rays emanate suddenly from the tabernacle. The same thing happened on each of the two days that followed.

On June 28, 1973, a cross-shaped wound appeared on the inside left hand of Sr. Agnes. It bled profusely and caused her much pain. On July 6, Sr. Agnes heard a voice coming from the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the chapel where she was praying. The statue was carved from a single block of wood from a Katsura tree and is three feet tall. On the same day, a few of the sisters noticed drops of blood flowing from the statue's right hand. On four occasions, this act of blood flow repeated itself. The wound in the statue's hand remained until September 29, when it disappeared. On September 29, the day the wound on the statue disappeared, the sisters noticed the statue had now begun to "sweat", especially on the forehead and neck. On August 3, Sr. Agnes received a second message. On October 13, she received a final third message.

Two years later on January 4, 1975, the statue of the Blessed Virgin began to weep. It continued to weep at intervals for the next 6 years and eight months. It wept on 101 occasions.

THE MESSAGES

Here are the three messages of Our Lady of Akita to Sr. Agnes:

JULY 6, 1973

"My daughter, my novice, you have obeyed me well in abandoning all to follow me. Is the infirmity of your ears painful? Your deafness will be healed, be sure. Does the wound of your hand cause you to suffer? Pray in reparation for the sins of men. Each person in this community is my irreplaceable daughter. Do you say well the prayer of the Handmaids of the Eucharist? Then, let us pray it together."

"Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in Holy Eucharist, I consecrate my body and soul to be entirely one with Your Heart, being sacrificed at every instant on all the altars of the world and giving praise to the Father pleading for the coming of His Kingdom."

"Please receive this humble offering of myself. Use me as You will for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls."

"Most holy Mother of God, never let me be separated from Your Divine Son. Please defend and protect me as Your Special Child. Amen."

When the prayer was finished, the Heavenly Voice said:

"Pray very much for the Pope, Bishops, and Priests. Since your Baptism you have always prayed faithfully for them. Continue to pray very much...very much. Tell your superior all that passed today and obey him in everything that he wil tell you. He has asked that you pray with fervor."

AUGUST 3, 1973

"My daughter, my novice, do you love the Lord? If you love the Lord, listen to what I have to say to you."

"It is very important...You will convey it to your superior."

"Many men in this world afflict the Lord. I desire souls to console Him to soften the anger of the Heavenly Father. I wish, with my Son, for souls who will repair by their suffering and their poverty for the sinners and ingrates."

CHURCH APPROVES MESSAGES, WEEPING STATUE AS SUPERNATURAL

APRIL, 1984 -- Most. Rev. John Shojiro Ito, Bishop of Niigata, Japan, after years of extensive investigation, declares the events of Akita, Japan to be of supernatural origin, and authorizes throughout the entire diocese the veneration of the Holy Mother of Akita.

On April 22, 1984, after eight years of investigations, after consultation with the Holy See, the messages of Our Lady of Akita were approved by the Bishop of the diocese. In the Japanese village of Akita, a statue of the Madonna, according to the testimony of more than 500 Christians and non-Christians, including the Buddhist mayor of the town, has shed blood, sweat and tears. A nun, Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa has received the stigmata and has received messages from Our Lady.

JUNE, 1988 -- Vatican City -- Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, gives definitive judgement on the Akita events and messages as reliable and worthy of belief.

Howard Dee, former Philippine ambassador to the Vatican, said in a 1998 interview with Inside the Vatican magazine: “Bishop Ito [the local bishop, now deceased] was certain Akita was an extension of Fatima, and Cardinal Ratzinger personally confirmed to me that these two messages, of Fatima and Akita, are essentially the same.”

The Blessed Mother says, as usual, some amazing things. "The wrath of the Father" and the Blessed Mother and her son intervening? That kind of clashes with current theology.

A little off topic, but in the few decades wasn't there one in Croatia or something where the Blessed Mother had a few appearances and said some really interesting stuff?

Just wanted to tell you that we had the privelege of seeing the REAL Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima on Monday evening. Mr. Redhead was in the 4th Degree Honor Guard (90+ degrees! 12 good, faithful knights!). It was in a beautiful little rural church, packed to the rafters with those who love Our Lady of Fatima.

I cannot even begin to tell you of the inexpressible BEAUTY of that wonderful face. It was such an honor and blessing to be so close to such a legendary work of art in honor of our Blessed Mother. If you ever hear of the statue coming to a church in your area, do not miss the opportunity to gaze on that GORGEOUS countenance. Sigh...It was wonderful!
