Reading I
Responsorial Psalm
GospelReading I
Hos 2:16, 17c-18, 21-22
Thus says the Lord:
I will allure her;
I will lead her into the desert
and speak to her heart.
She shall respond there as in the days of her youth,
when she came up from the land of Egypt.
On that day, says the Lord,
She shall call me "My husband,"
and never again "My baal."
I will espouse you to me forever:
I will espouse you in right and in justice,
in love and in mercy;
I will espouse you in fidelity,
and you shall know the Lord.
Responsorial Psalm
145:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
R. (8a) The Lord is gracious and merciful.
Every day will I bless you,
and I will praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord and highly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.
R. The Lord is gracious and merciful.
Generation after generation praises your works
and proclaims your might.
They speak of the splendor of your glorious majesty
and tell of your wondrous works.
R. The Lord is gracious and merciful.
They discourse of the power of your terrible deeds
and declare your greatness.
They publish the fame of your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your justice.
R. The Lord is gracious and merciful.
The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The Lord is good to all
and compassionate toward all his works.
R. The Lord is gracious and merciful.
Gospel
Mt 9:18-26
While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward,
knelt down before him, and said,
"My daughter has just died.
But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live."
Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him
and touched the tassel on his cloak.
She said to herself, "If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured."
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said,
"Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you."
And from that hour the woman was cured.
When Jesus arrived at the official's house
and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,
he said, "Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping."
And they ridiculed him.
When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand,
and the little girl arose.
And news of this spread throughout all that land.

I want to thank Lady in Blue with all my heart for posting the Daily Readings while I was gone.
Well done, friend! You are very special. Proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ's works and words is only one of our goals here on earth.
Peace be with you.
How totally awesome!
"Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ." (St. Jerome)
"A man who is well-grounded in the testimonies of Scriptures is the bulwark of the Church." (St. Jerome)
"It is not enough to discover Christ--you must bring Him to others! The world today is one great mission land, even in countries of long-standing Christian tradition." (Pope John Paul II)
Granted that they have a head start. But through faith-sharing groups and Bible study groups we are catching up.
I would encourage everyone to go to their Word Committee or Adult Formation Committee and encourage them to sponsor an Apologetics class for your parish. The one we had was outstanding -- and it was taught by a member of the laity who knows the Bible!
18 "Knelt before him":
the eastern way of showing respect to God or to important people. In the liturgy, especially in the presence of the Blessed Eucharist, reverences are a legitimate and appropriate external sign of internal faith and adoration.
23."The flute players": engaged to provide music at wakes and funerals.
24."Depart, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping"; Jesus says the same thing about Lazarus: "our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to waken him" (Jn 11:11),
Although Jesus speaks of sleep, there is no question of the girl -- or Lazarus, later-- not being dead. For our Lord there is only one true death -- that of eternal punishment (cf. Mt 10:28).
27-34. The evangelist shows people's different reactions to miracles. Everyone admits that God is at work in these events -- everyone, that is, except the Pharisees who attribute them to the power of the devil. A pharisaical attitude so hardens a person's heart that he becomes closed to any possibility of salvation.
Do stop by for some quiet time and reflection, and let us know how the delivery went. How many other kids do you have?
God bless. Mary, Mother of all Mothers, please walk with Okies love Dubya 2 and her family as they ready their home and hearts for this new addition to their family.
I think this is true in the Anglican Catholic Church, too. I would like to see more reverence in the Roman Catholic Church. If not a genuflection or bow, then a reverent nod of the head before the reception of Communion. I believe this is a mandate of the Holy See and has come down through the USCCB, but some parish priests will not put it into practice unless we push them.
Don't you think that the churches in which the most reverence is exhibited will be the ones to grow right now? Just speculation on my part. It seems to be the case in our parish right now.
I am inspired when I see large groups of the Catholic faithful participating in food drives for the poor, showers for crisis pregnancy centers, and group prayers said to end abortion. But still, it's very difficult to gauge the interior dispositions of an individual simply by observing their exterior actions.
Certainly, reverence, piety, humility, faith, charity and all the other virtues are important for each of us to cultivate and can be manifested in our outward behavior. However, (Imho) the emphasis ought to be on the interior life and our personal love of God. I am not able to measure this in others.
I agree. First, we get the interior or inward part of our faith correct..................................................................................................................then we can go about participating in parish life fully through the activities you listed earlier that inspired you or others (the exterior or outward part of our faith) such as evangelization: sharing the Word of Jesus Christ with others on an individual and/or group basis.
