For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil[b] of David. When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?”

1  Save me, O God, by your name;

    vindicate me by your might.

2  Hear my prayer, O God;

    listen to the words of my mouth.

3  Arrogant foes are attacking me;

    ruthless people are trying to kill me—

    people without regard for God.[c]

4  Surely God is my help;

    the Lord is the one who sustains me.

5  Let evil recoil on those who slander me;

    in your faithfulness destroy them.

6  I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you;

    I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good.

7  You have delivered me from all my troubles,

    and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

Oh LORD,

Our God,

How Excellent is Your Name Over All The Earth!

Blessed Are You,

King of The Universe,

And Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!

How Happy we are to be called of You,

To Come into Your House With Singing and Praise,

To Exalt Your Name Together, Forever!

We Seek You,

and Find You,

And You Deliver Us From Our Fears.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.

It's a very sad statement, but I have to express it:

"Everybody, no matter how NICE they are, has enemies.

I wish this wasn't true, , but it seems that the more kind and trusting one is, the more aggressive the evil one is toward that person. That's why:

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”

I always thought it was Winston Churchill who said that, or perhaps George Orwell, or maybe Orwell quoting Churchill, but it seems that BOTH Churchill and Orwell were quoting Rudyard Kipling! (Hillsdale College-The Churchill Project)

An enemy is an enemy, and I can't take it personally that there will always be somebody out there who doesn't like me. On the other hand, there is nothing worse than being betrayed by a close friend.

This is what David is talking about in his Psalm, and it's prophetic concerning what Jesus went through. While Jesus knew who His betrayer was, it must have still wounded Him deeply. The way Judas identified Jesus in the Garden was even more chilling: he betrayed Jesus with a kiss. How HORRIBLE! Season Five of The Chosen ended with that kiss, and it was electrifying. Years would go by before the series picked up the thread again, and viewers were left hanging with that kiss of betrayal still on Judas's lips. For fans of the series, it's starting up again in November, so fasten your seatbelts.

Many years ago, I wrote this description of Slander and Betrayal:(from 2021)

In a movie that I saw as a very young child made a big impression on me. It was "IVANHOE", and starred a young and beautiful Elizabeth Taylor.

"Liz" played a Jewish woman who is accused of witchcraft. When accused, she quotes the Ninth Commandment back at her accuser:

"Thou Shalt Not Commit False Witness Against Thy Neighbor."

This was the first time my young ears had ever heard of the Ten Commandments, and the First of the Ten that I ever learned. All because of Liz! I can still hear her mellifluous voice saying those words in my head, and every time I read that line in my Bible, it is in her voice. That was over 60 years ago! God's Word is SO Powerful.

There is a reason Slander is in "The Big Ten" up there with Murder, Idolatry, Blasphemy, Adultery, Greed, and Theft. Perhaps Thomas Aquinas's Seven Deadly Sins could be revised to include Slander, as we have seen so much of it in recent years, and the horrible damage it causes. I would say it's worse than "Gluttony" or even "Sloth", because the damage is done to others rather than to the self.

Of course, Aquinas was a much smarter guy that I'll ever be, and probably a better theologian than Liz Taylor.

But, while the other Commandments are vocalized in my head by Charlton Heston, the Ninth will always be Liz!

David was betrayed many times, by Saul (who was his king, his employer, and his father-in-law), and by his own son Absalom. While David had to fight enemies who could wound his body, he also had betrayers who wounded his soul.

But remember, David knew exactly Whom to go to when he suffered Betrayal. And we can go to HIM too.
