David at Gath

10 That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath. 11 But the servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David, the king of the land? Isn’t he the one they sing about in their dances:

“‘Saul has slain his thousands,

    and David his tens of thousands’?”

12 David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath. 13 So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.

14 Achish said to his servants, “Look at the man! He is insane! Why bring him to me? 15 Am I so short of madmen that you have to bring this fellow here to carry on like this in front of me? Must this man come into my house?”

First of all, I apologize for the lateness of this post today. The weather was so GORGEOUS that I walked FIVE miles this morning with the dog. Luckily, I'm in a different time zone than most of you, so it's an hour or two EARLIER wherever you are. I walked two miles to the high school, four times around the track for another mile, and two miles back. I guess I'm a little crazy, but I LOVE walking with my dawg.

The old Soviet Union had a horrible way of silencing dissidents. They would be declared insane, and then imprisoned in State-Run Psychiatric "Hospitals". These alleged healthcare facilities were just another part of the Gulag. Anyone declared "crazy", who wasn't, must have suffered terribly.

That anyone would pretend to be a lunatic in order to gain access to such a place is unthinkable. Yet, the famous movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" is about that very thing. Perhaps it was supposed that the alternative to a Psychiatric Facility would be even worse.

David took a big chance feigning madness in front of this pagan king. But it WORKED! I love the king's response:

"I don't have enough lunatics in my kingdom, you gotta bring me another one????"

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
