🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem🇮🇱 (7/5/26)[Prayer]

Personalities

1 Samuel 4:1-22

4 And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.

2 And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.

3 And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the Lord smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.

4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

5 And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the Lord was come into the camp.

7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.

8 Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.

9 Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.

10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.

11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

12 And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.

13 And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.

14 And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.

15 Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.

16 And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?

17 And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.

18 And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

19 And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

20 And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.

21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.

22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.

I finally had to say goodbye to my car. It was 14 years old, had 117,700 miles on it, and ran great, but it was developing bizarre quirks that could become safety issues if left unaddressed. Not only that, but the A/C died during this historic hot spell, and I was given an estimate of $1500.00 to fix it, which was more than the car was worth. It was time to get a "new" car.

I did some research and found a 2015 Forester with 71,000 miles on it... a steal at $15,000. Since I have no money but LOTS of credit, I was able to buy the car, mainly because the A/C works! I like it because it has a CD player, a trailer hitch, a back-up camera, and not-so-many computerized "Nanny" features, which suits me just fine. Plus, even though it's a Japanese car (sorry, Dad) it WAS manufactured in the USA by American Workers.

The only problem was that the DIGITAL CLOCK on the dashboard was about 48 minutes WRONG, and could make me late for lessons. I tried EVERYTHING to reset the clock, to no avail.

One of my adult students has a newer Subaru, so she came out and fiddled with buttons to no avail.

"I hate changing the clock!" she exclaimed. "I have to do it in my own car every Spring and Autumn for Daylight Saving Time, and I can never remember the steps."

We pulled out the manual from the glove compartment, but it was for a slightly different model, and indicated buttons on the dash that MY car didn't have. We both gave up in frustration.

The next morning, I went online, and learned how to do it from a You Tube Video. The missing buttons were on the Steering Wheel. I texted my Student with my Triumph! Now I'll just have to remember that exact sequence of steps every Spring and Autumn.

The Ark of the Covenant was not a computer. There was no secret code to get it to "work", nor did it have buttons that needed to be pressed in sequence. It wasn't a Talisman, nor was it a little nuclear reactor. It wasn't designed to be a weapon, but, at Jericho, God happened to use it that way. The People remembered this, and it shaded the way they responded to it.

The Philistines saw it and responded with fear. It was as if the Israelites were in possession of a "Doomsday Weapon". This fear made them fight harder, as they thought that possession of the Ark would make them invincible.

The Israelites, on the other hand, treated the Ark as if it were a "Votive". A votive is something in primitive religions that looks like the thing that the people need, and represents their prayer. A perfect example of a votive would be the image of a fat, pregnant, happy, goddess, designed to bring prosperity and fertility to the land.

The Ark of the Covenant wasn't a votive or a talisman, or anything that could be turned on or off with the right incantation. God designed it to be a physical item to symbolize His Presence among His people. By relying on a talisman, the Israelites were literally "putting God in a Box".

The results were disastrous.

It would be even more disastrous for the Philistines. All this time, Young Samuel could see what was going on. As he matured in wisdom and stature among the people, things were about to take and enormous course correction.

It was time for Israel to line itself up again with God's Word, and Samuel would be the navigator.

Oh, by the way, the Japanese word for the North Star, that wonderful star in the night sky that has helped sailors steer their ships through the vast uncharted oceans, is "subaru".

My Our Lives always be "lined up" with the Word of God.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessed Is The Nation Whose God Is The LORD (Psalm 33)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

I'm certainly NOT a lib, but need a big hatch in the back for sound equipment. But you're right...it has that reputation. I may have to put a MAGA Bumper sticker on it to differentiate my Forester from the "others"..

“Reliable” is the most important thing!

The more computerized the car, the less reliable it gets. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION!
