Catholic aid workers warn that entire communities risk disappearing from the Middle East.
Father Jan Zelazny, director of the Polish section of Aid to the Church in Need, met Christian communities as he traveled through Lebanon and Syria at the end of May.
“In some places, only small Christian towns remain,” he said. “The Muslims left those areas. There are tunnels where Hezbollah fighters hide. The Christians stay and live in a kind of constant siege.” Many refuse to leave, fearing that departure would mean permanent exile. “They say that if they leave, they will never return,” Father Zelazny told OSV News.
But the priest said the crisis is measured not only in destroyed buildings, but in ordinary lives abruptly broken apart. He described meeting a family displaced from the region near Cana in southern Lebanon. The father had worked for years in telecommunications before deciding to return to his hometown because of family illnesses. He sold everything, bought a small shop and started over.
“The shop had even begun to make a profit,” Father Zelazny told OSV News. “Nine months later, instead of a shop there is one huge ruin.”
Yet Father Zelazny said the deeper danger is despair — especially among the young.
“They have very simple dreams,” Father Zelazny said. “Dreams for one or two days ahead.”
“When aid workers arrived, the first question the children asked was whether they had chocolate,” he said. Later, volunteers returned with large quantities of candy. “The joy of the children was enormous,” Father Zelazny said.

The obscure TV comedy western series Best of the West in 1981-1982 had Tom Ewell as “Doc” Dr. Jerome Cullens.
Once at a town meeting the star made a speech about how he wanted this to be a place where a man could take his wife and little son to carve out a new life where people would stand together to help each other against the challenges.
Ewell: “Then why in the Hell did you choose this worthless place to live?”
The place was beautiful when christians were 80% of the population. There’s your answer.

Have you ever commented on the millions of Christians murdered by muslims in Nigeria, Sudan, etc.? Because I track and post about those regularly and recall no such interest in Dead Christians anywhere else, unless a Jew is nearby to implicate.
I’ve been on FR since 2007 and have posted at length about the plight of African and Middle Eastern as well as Chinese, North Korean, etc…Christians. As well as Holocaust-related posts. And the plight of persecuted Muslims too like the Uyghurs in China also the Buddhists of Tibet.

There are about 15 posters here who only ever comment on dead Christians that muslims murdered because a Jew was nearby and they could blame the Jew when the muslim literally pulled the trigger.

Given the current geopolitical context that directly involves the US, more people are awakening to the dynamics of the Middle East that the mainstream media does not cover. The plight - the mere existence of Christians in the region being a major one. I also shared an article recently about Syrian Jews!
And you already know I’m no fan of Netanyahu and Likud’s current incantation with Ben Gvir and those of like mind at the helm. If noting the other points of view present in Israel — in the Israeli Right no less — makes me an anti-Semite in your book, I can’t do anything about that. 🤷🏻♀️

As I keep saying, try uniting conservatives every once in a long while. You constant division within conservatism makes you indistinguishable from a Paid Soros Troll.
On Free Republic, I don’t think you’ll find people who disagree on issues with blatant Left vs. Right paradigms, like transgenderism. In-house debates are more relevant like: Neoconservativism vs. Non-interventionism in foreign policy. There are also disagreements about the MAHA agenda and the use of pesticides. And among Christians, there are theological disagreements about things like the End Times that would go over other people’s heads.

I believe it was the American psychologist Walter Bradford Cannon who invented the term “fight or flight”. The US made that decision in the middle 1770’s.
