I just wanted to make this a bit of a heartfelt rant and I will give the link later.
Some of you probably know a homosexual who was dismissed from the now-defunct Christian music group "Avalon" has re-released one of their songs. He says it celebrates his homosexual lifestyle.
Disappointing enough, but not surprising.
What has really prompted my post today is my exceeding disappointment in five women who have blessed my walk with their music:
Point of Grace, a trio of singers. Nichole Nordeman, a solo artist. Kim Hill, a musician from the 80s and 90s.
All five of these women publicly applauded this pro-homosexual interpretation of the song "Testify to Love", and by extension the lifestyle thereof. All about "inclusivity" we're told.
Point of Grace has won no less than 12 "Dove" Awards. Nichole has won 4. Kim Hill, now seemingly retired from music, has been on 3 Dove winning projects.
Never mind the Dove Awards--these ladies are in the "Christian Music" world.
Everyone talks about Amy Grant going woke, but I wonder if we need to re-think the sincerity of so many of these acts.
I don't mean to just point out the women; I am certain there are plenty of guys in the "Christian music" biz who are just as bad. Heck, that fellow who was booted from the Newsboys--Michael Tait--has big issues. And Stephen Fee famously lost a lot of momentum when he was caught cheating on his wife.
But this feels different because these artists have purposely gone OUT of their way to applaud something that is so obviously unbiblical!!

But I wonder how I can appreciate them knowing their hearts are so confused about what the Bible says--so much so that they're taking public stands to applaud the OPPOSITE of what the Bible says.
I am so grateful for believers like Meg Basham and Allie Beth Stuckey and Erika Kirk. Even taking on attacks from the left (and some "woke Christians") they stand strong.
Wes Huff from Canada is a man who also stands strong for the truth.
But seeing some of these people who have been a blessing in the past just walk away from truth is sad.
1 John 2:19?
The only “Christian” artist (that I know of) who has not compromised his faith is Dallas Holm. Everyone else from my youth has fallen.
Have never listened to any of them. The music is mediocre at best and I am aware of essentially none that haven’t eventually embraced some anti-christ ideology and declared ‘true’ Christianity.
So, I’ve never been let down. Sorry for your experience, tbough.
My old church was a center of the “Christian Music” scene in the 70’s and early 80’s. Sometimes I like to listen the old CCM stuff (Maranatha!, 2nd Chapter of Acts, etc...), but I never got into many of the more recent groups except for maybe Mercy Me, and anything by Phil Wickham. I used to attend church with Phil Wickham’s parents before they were married and he came along.
Not to mention Veggie Tales as a random additional instance...
If Michael Card goes bad it would devastate me. But I think he has major protection from that: he writes about specific texts in the Bible.
They never were Christian; they were showmen who realized there’s a ton of money in Contemporary Christian Music. Sooner or later the “real” person will emerge, and that’s what you’re realizing now.
I’d rather listen to a month of “It’s A Small World” than five minutes of CCM.
I am circumspect in what I listen to—and all three had stuff that was pretty good lyrically. Encouraging, biblical.
Heck, Kim Hill basically put Psalm 1 to music. You can’t get much more biblical than a Psalm.
Sigh.
I’m a Rich Mullins kind of guy, myself.
My son-inlaw has written over 200 contemporary Christian songs. Some of them used my very well-known artists that have hit #1 on the Dove Charts. He’s also an attorney that represents up and coming young Christian artists from the “wolves” as he calls them.
Why? Because the Contemporary Christian music genre is the most cut-throat genres there is. One of the major reasons for this is the audience is relatively small compared to other music genres. So everyone is competing for that small “piece of the pie” so to speak.
Also, the performer of a song may not be the original writer of the song. The writer may have a special annointing for doing that kind of work. However, the performer is just singing the words....many times without their true feeling or meaning that the writer felt when penning those words. It happens alot.
Don’t confuse the annointing of a song with a particular artist’s walk. It’s hard to do sometimes. IF the artist is also the writer and lives like the devil, shame on em...
artistic endeavors have always attracted a lot of homosexuals and yes, some of them are very talented at it (the artistic stuff I mean)
if they’re singing for a church, though, they should imho not parade their sex stuff
it does not show respect for their sponsor or primary audience
Recently I saw signs (small yard type signs) all over one area promoting the Pre-Pride celebration for June that was coming up at the time. Sponsored and hosted by a local Presbyterian Church.
yes, I am certain you are right. I haven’t been as involved as your SIL, but I am aware.
Very sad.
Same here.
Sadly.
Twice a day I listen to Sing the Hours on Youtube produced by Paul Rose.
That's not for us to say without knowing their hearts. Even Christians can fall and be lost: the Bible is very clear in warning about that, and we both know ex-Christians that have. I have no doubt that at one time these folks were as convinced of their own standing with Christ as you and I.
One can either continue to enjoy the songs and ignore the public stands or one can drop or boycott them completely. Perhaps some mushy compromise between the two options. Whatever one does like you said it’s a sad sad situation.
We used to use a lot of Ray Boltz songs in our church — “Thank You” and “I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb” are two of his most famous tunes. He came out as gay and is now “married” to a man. And then there’s Amy Grant, who was arguably the biggest Christian artist of the 80s. She has jumped on the LGBTQ bandwagon, hosting a lesbian “wedding” for her niece in 2022. It just reminds us not to put our faith in human beings.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand, if your cup be empty If your cup is full, may it be again Let it be known, there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go, no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead, must follow But if you fall, you fall alone If you should stand, then who's to guide you? If I knew the way, I would take you home Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Robert Hunter / Jerry Garcia
