7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

8 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

It is probable that the story of the Death of Moses is an addendum to Deuteronomy penned either by Joshua (the Newly Appointed Leader) or Eleazar (the Newly Appointed High Priest after the Death of Aaron). Moses lived to be 120 Years Old, and was buried by God Himself in an undisclosed location. This shows us a number of things: One, that Moses had a Special Relationship with God, and, also, that his burial place was kept secret so it wouldn't become a Shrine of Idolatry.

The Bible is silent about what happened to Moses's body, but the Oral Traditions and Apocryphal Writings aren't. The Apostle Jude, in his one Letter (just before Revelation in the Bible), muses about The Archangel Michael fighting with the Devil over the Body of Moses. (Jude, Verse 9). Of Course, Michael WON. Jude speaks of this incident as if it were a common belief among First Century Jews, and imagines it as a picture of our own struggles with Temptation and Sin. Those are Powerful Spiritual Forces out there!

We say Goodbye to Moses today, but know that he'll be back, in the Company of Jesus and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration. Moses will be the Embodiment of the LAW, Elijah the Embodiment of the Prophets, and Jesus the FULLFILMENT of BOTH.
