Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, claimed at the German Catholic Congress (Katholikentag) in Würzburg that both Germany’s Synodal Path and the global Synod on Synodality are inspired “through the same protagonist: the Holy Spirit.”
Katholisch.de reported on May 17 that Grech described the Church as a “symphony,” saying that synodality is about harmony rather than the sum of individual opinions.
Theology student Finja Miriam Weber, a member of the German Synodal Assembly, responded by asking who decides which “instruments” people in the Church are allowed to play. She added that, as a woman, she is excluded from certain roles simply because she is female.
After applause from the audience, Grech replied that the Holy Spirit is the conductor of the symphony. Before the discussion could continue, the moderator ended the exchange.
However, Cardinal Grech later approached Weber and told her: “We need people like you.”

Not much different than men in the girls locker room. Priests are male...always have been....always should be. What I disagree with: Priests should be able to marry.
Pretty clear in Scripture chrpurch leaders can have one wife. Limited to one wife only. Which also means if you arent a church leader that limit does not apply, confirming almost all major biblical male figures had more than one wife and there was no issue with that. Many men did.
Todays current crops of women, yku are safer having zero wives however.
This article has nothing to do with married priests.
It’s about female “priests”.
To my understanding, the Catholic Church faced significant problems with married priests and inheritance laws, particularly during the 10th and 11th centuries, which was a primary driver for enforcing clerical celibacy.
Property Inheritance: As the Church accumulated wealth and land, married priests and bishops often passed Church properties and offices to their sons. This practice threatened the Church’s economic integrity by diverting tithe donations to private families and allowing clerical sons to inherit lucrative positions, effectively turning Church offices into hereditary family businesses.
Reform Measures: To combat this, Pope Benedict VIII issued a rule in the 11th century prohibiting the children of priests from inheriting property. Later, Pope Gregory VII enforced stricter celibacy laws, excommunicating married priests to ensure that Church assets would default back to the institution rather than being inherited by illegitimate or legitimate heirs.
Broader Control: Beyond economics, reformers argued that family ties distracted priests from their duties and tied them to local aristocratic networks, undermining the Church’s independence and moral authority during the Gregorian Reform.
[Catholic Caucus] Cardinal Grech: We Need Women Calling for "Female Priesthood"
While Apostle Paul honored Christian women who used their spiritual gifts to help edify the early churches, mentioning some of them by name in his letters, Cardinal Grech's secular-minded social engineering (imo) regarding females in the priesthood is the opposite of what Paul said about putting women in positions of authority imo.
I thought the whole reason for non marraige was so that church holdings could not be claimed by spouses in court.
Yeah. St. Paul’s inspired scripture was wrong but you’re right. In America, everybody’s a theological expert.
But they could not be deacons or bishops...
In fact, the Apostle Paul wrote women should remain silent in church...
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1st Timothy 3:2
Deacons can marry and often are. It’s a tough job on those married ones, too. I have two close friends who are deacons.
I’m glad we have unmarried priests. It is a difficult enough job, without introducing a wife and kids into the mix.
What we need is a pre-nup....between couple and the church.
Indeed. The Bible points out the difficulty of serving multiple masters
“Synodality” is Satan’s latest tool for fracturing the bones of the Church.
Not true. Both single and married men can now become permanent deacons. But once a deacon, whether single or a widower, he can not marry/re-marry.
This is true, but both of my friends are married (with lovely, supportive wives, I might add). Both of them have large families (extended and their own kids/grandkids.) Both of them became deacons after many, many years of marriage.
I am very close to one of them, and semi-close to the other. What they do is a lot of responsibility, even after they retire from their other jobs.
