Pope Leo XIV made headlines recently by echoing, on social media, the words of Jesus Christ from His famous Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the peacemakers.” Many on the right took this as a jab at President Trump over the Iran war, and perhaps it was. But I’d like for a moment to set aside politics and focus on the words themselves.
Because we who consider ourselves followers of Christ take those words very seriously, or at least we should. Of course, not all conservatives are Christians, but most at least embrace Judeo-Christian values. So, whether you believe Jesus is the Messiah or merely regard Him as a great teacher, perhaps you will join me in pondering this question:
For those of us trying our best to follow the Master while battling the Left’s constant, frankly demonic attacks on reason and morality—abortion on demand, demand, “transgenderism,” enabling of violent criminals, support for terrorists—how do we reconcile those two seemingly opposing priorities? How can we be peacemakers amidst such spiritual warfare?
I believe we can, and indeed, we must. And it all starts with our attitude, our motivation. If our goal is primarily to “own the libs,” on social media and elsewhere—to make them look bad, to ridicule and call them names, to embarrass them publicly, to cause them to lose their minds—then we are not being peacemakers.
At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with opposing evil. Quite the contrary. Consider the martial imagery inherent in the Apostle Paul’s admonition, in his Epistle to the Ephesians, to “put on the full armor of God.” He speaks not only of defensive weapons, like shields and breastplates, but also of offensive weapons—“the sword of the Spirit.” Clearly, we are called to do battle against what Paul calls “spiritual wickedness.”

One son is a former Marine. I gave him a bumper sticker that says, “A dead enemy is a peaceful enemy. Blessed be the peacemakers”.
“Well, obviously, this is not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.”
Blessed are the Peacekeepers.
The peacemakers are those who have made peace with God by believing his son.
The distinction in Hebrew is ratsach in the commandment “Thou shalt not Kill”, which corresponds to our understanding for most cases of first degree murder. In military and other settings the words muwth, harag, shamad, charam and shachath are used, which King James translations of kill, slay or destroy. The same distension is found in the New Testament. You can find all this information in a Strongs Concordance, but no left-wing ideolog would ever look there.
Life of Brian was my first thought as well.
Opertive word is peaceMAKER! Not peace talkabouter! Talk is cheap el papa has nothing of substance to add to any peace?
Samuel Colt and his revolver.

In the original scrolls, it’s actually “Blessed are the piecemakers”, written by Paul to the quilting guild at Ephesus.
Prevost has got a lot of nice real estate increasingly surrounded by a sea of Muslims (Mohamatans). Like Merz, a couple of posts above he figures some sort of accommodation necessary. Surrender is one way of making peace.
“How can we be peacemakers amidst such spiritual warfare?”
Because it is the only thing that will actually stop them in their tracks. Taking away their ability to act like an islamist by stripping them of their weapons and they will stop the continual killing until they get more weapons. Talking to islamists is a wasted effort as they use that time to get more weapons. They will not take a step back as long as they have the ability to harm using their “deity” as an excuse to kill and maim. Just that simple.

There is peace when there is justice in the land.
They typical comments of those without understanding are:
Doesn’t look like peace to us.
Doesn’t look like justice to us.
It means “.45 Colt Forever.”

Good post.
A lot of punks are quiet due to those.
Pastor Robert Jeffress who expresses conservative Christian views....
(Book 18 Minutes With Jesus is entirely about the Sermon on the Mount and its misinterpretations by people.)
Some items about him:
He holds that Scripture authorizes governments to use “whatever means necessary”—including war and lethal force—to stop evil, citing Romans 13. He advocates for strong military action
Jeffress has criticized Christian pacifism, suggesting that if it had prevailed in the past, the results would have been disastrous, such as during WWII.Israel-Hamas War: He supports Israel’s right to take any necessary action to defend itself, framing it as a, right to exist.
He expressed strong support for President Trump using military force to remove leaders like North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un, arguing this is a legitimate exercise of “God-given authority”.
