Numbers 17:1-13

17 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod.

3 And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.

4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

5 And it shall come to pass, that the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

6 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

7 And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness.

8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.

10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

11 And Moses did so: as the Lord commanded him, so did he.

12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.

13 Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the Lord shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?

How Holy is Your Name!
Thank You For Giving Us Hope,
Perseverance,
Stamina,
and Determination,
When it seems that everything and everyone is working against us.

We Pray For The Leaders of Our Nation,
May They Be Inspired and Led By You,
And Please Guide Them in All Things.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.

While I was never a full-blown "Dead Head", I really like the Grateful Dead's Music. This was compounded by the fact that my husband's cousin Joe was the A& R man who Signed Jerry Garcia to his first recording contract. This rocketed Joe to becoming a top Record Executive, and he ended up being "Chairman of the Board". He later became the President of another Record Company, that's housed in LA in a building that looks like a stack of RECORDS. (LOL). It was so weird having a relative who hung out with Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, and Johnny Carson. Joe lived well into his 90s, and left me nothing but a great story to share.

Anyway, back to The Grateful Dead. One of my favorite songs by them is called "I Need A Miracle".

The "Hook" in the song is this line:

"I Need A Miracle Every Day".

The problem with people, even Believers, is that we get miracles every day, and we STILL complain. Moses was in charge of over a million people who complained constantly. God had given elaborate rituals to anoint Aaron as High Priest, detailed Instructions about the Layout of the Camp, the Tabernacle, the Holidays, the Ritual Sacrifices, and the Hierarchy of Leadership, (contained in all those Chapters in Exodus that we skipped over). God didn't just give Moses a list of Rules and Regulations. The Law concerned Marriage, Property, Clean and Unclean Foods, Proper Disposal of Waste, Social and Religious Duties, and so on. Normally, one would ask:

"By What Authority Do You Make All These Rules and Regulations?"

Moses, and his Brother Aaron, were under the Authority of God. Now, normally, if somebody said that to me, I'd say:

"PROVE IT!"

Moses didn't have to prove it. There was Manna every morning. There was Water From A Rock. The Red Sea had Parted, and they had gone forth on Dry Land. The Quails came. Their clothes and shoes were as fresh as the day they left Egypt. They needed a Miracle Every day, and God provided them.

AND THEY STILL COMPLAINED!

The budding and blossoming of Aaron's Rod was a Sign of God's Sovereignty. Sometimes we don't understand God's Choices. We don't think He's being "democratic". But we're not qualified to judge His Choices, especially since EVERY DAY is another Miracle.

Amen to your prayer and word. It sure is easy to complain. I think sometimes we don’t even realize when we do it. Then my wife says “complain, complain, complain”. Then when opportunity arises I like saying it to her. I must say though that she does have a green thumb. So I better be careful.
