Why Jesus Said "Remember Lot's Wife" (SHORT VIDEO)

"Remember Lot's wife... one of the shortest verses in all the Bible. Don't look back."

Billy Graham unpacks the terrifying lesson from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. When the angels led Lot's family out of the judgment, they were given one rule: don't look back. But she loved the world too much, looked back, and was turned into a pillar of salt! Jesus used her as the ultimate warning for believers today. If you have been rescued by grace, stop looking longingly at your old life!

Philippians 3:12-14 New King James Version

Pressing Toward the Goal

12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,

14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

I think it’s a comforting passage. Basically: don’t let the past bring you down! (Or in her case: freeze you forever!)

In that clip Graham said the climax of history is judgment...but it's not. It's salvation. Because the climax of history is the Crucifixion & Resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Graham makes clear, not everyone will be saved, but:

God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. - John 3:17

Mercy triumphs over judgment. - James 2:13

For the thread 🧵🧵🧵

Luke 17:28-32
New King James Version

28 Likewise as it was also in the Days of Lot:
They Ate, They Drank, They Bought, They Sold,
They Planted, They Built;

29 but on the Day that Lot went out of Sodom
it Rained Fire And Brimstone From Heaven
And Destroyed Them All

30 Even so will it be in the Day when
the Son of Man is Revealed.

31 “In that Day, he who is on the housetop,
and his goods are in the house,
let him not come down to take them away.
And likewise the one who is in the field,
let him not turn back.

32 Remember Lot’s Wife.

Yes! While some may have undue nostalgia over the so called “good ole days” - a good many others are burdened by the regrets of their past, broken relationships, or unresolved hurt, anger, and trauma…

That can be poisonous even to the Christian life.

Genesis 19:12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

The angels told Lot to get his sons, daughters, sons in Law. Lot didn’t even try to talk to his older sons (they were probably out in the crowd). He talked to his “sons in law”, married to his older daughters. They laughed. Only Lot’s younger daughters made it out. You can almost sympathize with Lot’s wife, looking back at the destruction of her family.

The Lord God could not find
10 Righteous in the cities of
Sodom and Gomorrah

Genesis 18:20-33
English Standard Version

20 Then the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,

21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to Me. And if not, I will know.”

Abraham Intercedes for Sodom

22 So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord.

23 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will You indeed sweep away the Righteous with the Wicked?

24 Suppose there are fifty Righteous within the city. Will You then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty Righteous who are in it?

25 Far be it from You to do such a thing, to put the Righteous to Death with the Wicked, so that the Righteous fare as the Wicked! Far be that from You! Shall not the Judge of all the Earth do what is just?”

26 And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

27 Abraham answered and said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but Dust and Ashes.

28 Suppose five of the fifty Righteous are lacking. Will You destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”

29 Again he spoke to Him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”

30 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”

31 He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.”

32 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”

33 And the Lord went His way, when He had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

Its basically, don’t romanticize and fantasize about your past sins.

It leads to obssession and going back to them.

Definitely.

Lot’s wife though was obviously properly married and well to do though. So her ‘sins’ were things like complacency, materialism, etc…It’s not just sexual sin Sodom/Gomorrah were judged for.
