All sin is an opening to Satan which should be repented and confessed. But there are some actions which are huge openings to Evil and eventually yield disastrous spiritual results. Here are six:
1. Worshipping pagan "gods" and gurus. Some people are binding themselves to pagan "gods" (who are actually demons) and give themselves to their gurus. Thus, in their lives they replace the true God with demons.
2. Practicing witchcraft and/or the occult for years. We have more and more people who come to us after years of being in the occult, casting spells and curses, and frequent divination (e.g. tarot cards, ouija boards, mediums). It's ugly stuff and tough to exorcize.
3. Kundalini yoga and the Occult Third Eye. People are seeking "enlightenment" in pagan meditation practices, such as kundalini yoga. One of the goals of this yoga is to open the occult third eye which connects them directly to the dark world. All this leads one deep into the world of demons.
4. Practitioners of New Age spiritualities. New Age practitioners channel supposed "spiritual energies" with its monism or pantheism. They place themselves at the center of their universe rather than God. They often claim to be recognizing their own "divinity." Like Lucifer, they try to make themselves into a god.
5. Illicit Sex with a Witch, Satanist or other Minion of Satan. Having a sinful sexual relationship with a Minion of Satan binds them to the dark world and makes them vulnerable to its torments and curses.
6. Blood Pact with Satan. This is an explicit bonding with the Evil One. Even if one does not actually believe in the existence of a personified evil, a Satanic blood pact creates a true demonic bond.
What all these have in common is binding oneself to Satan, either directly or indirectly. They reject the one true God and seek out their own will rather than God's will. In claiming their own "divinity," they are violating the First Commandment and ultimately become imitators and slaves of Satan, who himself rejected God and refused to serve Him.
The demons present as a result of these practices are typically strong and deeply entrenched. Barring a special grace from God, these cases take about 4-6 years of intensive work to make substantial progress. Of course, these demons of divination and Satanism can all eventually be cast out.
At the beginning of the exorcism, the demons claim ownership of the person and protest that they will never leave. Sometimes they even convince the afflicted person that this is true. However, by the power of Jesus Christ, the Exorcist breaks the afflicted persons' pact and connection with Satan. He leads them into living a virtuous Christian spirituality, placing God once again at the center of their lives. Slowly slowly, their hearts are purified and souls sanctified. Eventually the grip of the demons lessens and gradually attenuates.
Such exorcisms are usually rather long and grueling processes. The solution is never to begin this path down the dark road in the first place. But if it is traveled, never lose hope in the power of Christ to free you. Satan is not Lord; Jesus is. And Jesus can cancel any debt, forgive every sin, and heal any wound.

Seated at the desk where St. Gemma Galgani sat in Lucca, Italy is Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti PhD DMin.
He is currently an exorcist for the Archdiocese of Washington and has been so for over 15 years. He is a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse and is also the President and Founder of the St. Michael Center For Spiritual Renewal.
Msgr. Rossetti is a licensed psychologist and has spent 30 years working in psychological treatment and the spiritual renewal of priests and religious. He assists in the training of exorcists and lay team members. Msgr. Rossetti has led hundreds of exorcism and deliverance sessions.
Divorce took care of that.
Msgr. Rossetti is a good man, a USAF Academy graduate if I recall correctly. He, Fr. Ripperger and Fr. Dan Rehill are some of my favorite speakers to listen to.
Exorcists are in regular demand and are overbooked and overworked.
No number is available for the dioceses which have a designated priest in that role but around 150 is usually estimated for the US. 500-600 for other countries, estimated.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the ministry, dioceses often keep the identity of their exorcist private.”
Monsignor Charles Pope said in 2024 that he assisted a friend in an exorcism and “it was harrowing and upsetting and I assure you it is not a delusion or a hoax. There is something evil and real going on.”
“The rise in, and demand for, trained exorcists is driven by increasing requests, though most cases are handled through psychological, medical, or pastoral care rather than formal, solemn exorcism.”
I follow Fr. Reehil on social media and he talks about tattooists mostly being Satanists or on the edge and the ink may be blessed Satanically.

Fr. Chad Ripperger’s Take
Fr. Chad Ripperger stands out among critics. A member of the Fraternal Society of Saint Peter (FSSP) and a well-known exorcist, he’s vocal about tattoos in his lectures. He argues they violate natural law by altering the body unnecessarily, calling them a form of mutilation. Religious tattoos, he says, are “the worst,” as they misuse sacred symbols in a sinful context. He’s even claimed modern tattoo ink might be “cursed,” linking it to demonic influence (Sensus Fidelium). On X, followers amplify this, with posts from March 27, 2025, citing his view that “Jesus and Mary are not meant to be inked on our arms.”
A few recent nonfiction books. No, I have read a few but not all these.
My Confrontation with Hell: Real Demonic Encounters of an Exorcist by Stephen J. Rossetti (2024): A detailed account of specific, intense, and ongoing cases of possession and spiritual combat.
Diary of an American Exorcist: Demons, Possession, and the Modern-Day Battle Against Ancient Evil by Msgr. Stephen Rossetti (2021): Shares personal experiences, stories of deliverance, and reflections from an American exorcist’s ministry.
Exorcism: The Battle Against Satan and His Demons by Fr. Vincent P. Lampert (2021): A guide on how the Church operates in cases of demonic activity, written by a veteran exorcist.
Slaying Dragons: What Exorcists See & What We Should Know by Charles D. Fraune (2021): A summary of the teachings and observations of modern exorcists regarding spiritual warfare.
The Exorcism Files: True Stories of Demonic Possession (2023): Compiles various accounts and testimonies of demonic activity in the modern world.
An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist Explains the Demonic by Fr. Gabriele Amorth: The foundational, modern accounts from the Vatican’s longtime chief exorcist.
Hostage to the Devil: The Possession and Exorcism of Five Contemporary Americans by Malachi Martin.
I once laughed at the yoga thing but I look at the yoga classes today and they are filled with Karens and AWFULs. Same people are also way too much into tarot too.
Reehil also talks about what they represent be it demons or other occult symbols. I had gotten one when I was 18 but had it surgically removed 5 years ago. Reehil said he often prays over them when confessed and doesn’t necessarily need to be removed but should be covered up.
An interesting and useful book which has some rather shocking things to say about Pilates, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, ouija boards and other sometimes seemingly innocuous practices which may have a demonic aspect to them.
Learn To Discern, Compendium: Is It Christian or New Age? by Susan Brinkmann.
True story about my late mother in law. She wanted to try meditation for stress reduction. Went to a few sessions of Transcendental Meditation (the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi system that The Beatles and others tried). She said firmly “I will not participate in any practice that rivals God or prays to anyone else.” “Don’t worry. We promise it won’t.”
A few sessions of meditation later everyone went into the next room where there was a big picture of the Maharishi, a cloth covered altar looking table and several lit candles.
She said, in effect, “That’s it. I am outta here.”
Msgr, Rossetti, Fr Ripperger, and Fr Rehill are great men and are providing invaluable resources for humanity. They will tell you that it is all thru God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. They’re simply a facilitator.
That said, their videos and other materials are crucial to understanding where and how demons get in our way, and how to conduct spiritual warfare.

My ex wife was into that crap...took herself out. She read a horoscope and did tarot and yoga. It’s demonic.
Why do Catholics ignore the Bible verse about calling men father
Fascinating...
I did not know this was still available.
Kundalini is Very Dangerous.

Msgr. Pope us among this “protty”’s favorite Catholic writers and teachers. He’s a true and faithful man of God and a marvelous professor of the Faith. How he has managed to do what he does in ADW is beyond my ability to understand... but there he is! To God be the Glory!

Why do Protestants ignore the Bible verses in which Jesus and Paul implore Christians to be one, e.g., “ . . . keep through Your name those you have given Me, that they may be ONE, as we are”? (John 17:11) Why does Protestantism lead to endless division and subdivision?
