I've had six dogs in Fifty Years. They were all different breeds, and most were "Rescues". Here's a brief synopsis:

1. Preston: Preston was a Samoyed, an AKC registered "Purebred", but, unfortunately from a puppy mill. He had a lot of strange behaviors (Like flushing the toilet repeatedly during a thunderstorm), and was the most affectionate creature I've ever encountered. He was quite mischievous, and did naughty things to get my attention like eating a leather couch and knocking over a Gibson SC Custom Electric Guitar and breaking the headstock. I reupholstered the couch (burning out two sewing machines in the process), and took the guitar to a luthier who fixed it perfectly. I really loved Preston. He was my first dog.

2. Odie: Odie was a Maltese who needed a home because his Human had a calling to smuggle Bibles into the Soviet Union. Of Course, still mourning for Preston, who had lived to be eleven, I jumped at the chance to get a new canine buddy. Odie lived for 17 years and had his own seat on my Harley. He LOVED to ride. I still have the Leather Jacket I made for him. Odie was utterly fearless, and his best friend was a hundred-pound female Malamute named Sasha. It was hilarious seeing Odie strut around with his BIG "Girlfriend".

3. Torey: After Odie passed away, I went to the Shelter and got Torey, a Jack Russell/Border Collie MIX. (I know. I know 😱). Anyway, she was a genius from the BC side (father), and wicked from her JRT side (mother). That made her an "Eeevil Genius". She was able to disconnect and disable an electric fence to escape the yard.

4. Lynn-DAH: After my husband died, my Momsuggested I get another Dog. I went to the Broward County Animal Shelter overflow facility, and there was Lynn, among 275 Pit Bulls. All 275 Pitties were begging me to take them home, but Lynn just sat there and looked at me with love. So she was the one who came home with me. I added another syllable to her name, because a dog deserves TWO syllables, IMHO. Mom got to meet Lynn-Dah just before she passed away, as I had brought the dog back to Massachusetts when I moved back to take care of Mom.

5. Penny: When Lynn-DAH passed on, I went to the Boston ASPCA and brought Penny the Pit-Bull home. She was the most gentle dog and had the sweetest disposition of any creature (human or otherwise) that I have ever met. She was nearly seven when I adopted her, so she only lived about six more years.

6. Tippy: My present dog is Tippy, a Blue Heeler (Aussie Cattle Dog). I'm going to use an old-fashioned term to describe her. She is "Fresh" (remember that ?). She's naughty without being evil, Bossy without being vicious, and extremely High-Energy. Lately I have noticed that she's been assisting me in my hearing loss by alerting me to the doorbell, the alarm clock, the tea kettle, and the smoke alarm. I didn't teach her these things, she just figured it out that I need her for those things.

There you have it. Six dogs, six entirely different personalities. They all do the same "doggie" things, like wag their tails, sniff around, and cuddle on the couch, but in every other way, they are different.

In this New Year, we are going to look at all the different "personalities" in the Bible. We start with Adam and his wife Eve. We see that Adam was made of Earth, but he had the breath of Life from his Creator breathed directly into his nostrils. This makes him a "Living Being". When God creates the Animals, they too become "alive" but that special Spiritual aspect described in Adam's creation isn't mentioned. So, being a "Living Being" as opposed to being a "Living Thing" carries a distinct difference.

Some scholars say we are "Body and Soul". Others say we are "Body, Soul, and Spirit". We humans come in all sizes, colors, shapes, and ethnicity, yet we are all human with human traits. One thing that is different for everybody is our personality. Just like my six dogs, who were ALL "dogs", each one had a different personality.

It's going to be a challenge looking at the personalities of Bible Characters, so fasten your seatbelts!
