Countdown To The New Year
Matthew 1:1-17
The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah
1 This is the genealogy[a] of Jesus the Messiah[b] the son of David, the son of Abraham:
2 Abraham was the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron,
Hezron the father of Ram,
4 Ram the father of Amminadab,
Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,
Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,
Obed the father of Jesse,
6 and Jesse the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah,
Abijah the father of Asa,
8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,
Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
9 Uzziah the father of Jotham,
Jotham the father of Ahaz,
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amon,
Amon the father of Josiah,
11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[c] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12 After the exile to Babylon:
Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13 Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,
Abihud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
14 Azor the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Akim,
Akim the father of Elihud,
15 Elihud the father of Eleazar,
Eleazar the father of Matthan,
Matthan the father of Jacob,
16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
How Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone are Worthy To Be Praised and Worshiped,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
You Care for Every one of Your Creatures,
From the Mightiest Ruler of men down to the tiniest of plants.
Every seed that brings forth after its kind,
Every Person that has ever walked the earth,
Every star that explodes into a supernova,
Shrinks to a black hole and forms a galaxy,
And becomes the ocean of stars in the firmament,
Owes its very Existence to You, and You Alone!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”
If you would like to be on or off the Daily Ping List, please let me know.

The Following Story Originally Appeared in this Thread on 9/11/22. I thought that it was relevant to Today's Scripture Passage.
One afternoon in 1971, I was on a trolley going through Kenmore Square, heading home from school. I was a college Freshman, and, since I was an Art Major, dressed very "avant-guarde" as in "hippie-freak" mode. A woman approached me and put a pocket-sized hardcover book in my hand and said:
"It's All In Here'"
Then she disappeared into the crowded trolley. I stuffed it in my bag to look at later. I expected it to be just another tract from Scientology, the "Children of God", or one of the other cults that were springing up all over Boston.
Later, I took out the book and saw that it was a little complete King James Bible. It was to be the First Bible I ever owned, and I still have it. There was nothing attached or slipped between the pages. The print was pretty small, but I decided to read it, starting in Genesis.
Well, it didn't take long before I slammed into "The Begats" in Genesis. I hadn't even gotten to Noah's Ark and I ran into them. It was a huge roadblock for me at the time, so I decided to switch to the New Testament. Starting in Matthew, I hit another set of "Begats". I became discouraged, and put the Book away, and for another ten years kept on being a sinner.
When I came to Faith in Jesus in 1981, I was given a New American Standard Bible. (that was from YOU, Skip, if you are reading this) The language wasn't that different than the King James, but, for some reason, I had no trouble reading it. I even found myself laughing out loud at some of the things I read. Yes! There is humor and word-play in the Bible. I fished out the little King James Bible that had been gathering dust and opened it up. I had no trouble understanding it. Even "The Begats" made sense. From Genesis to the Gospels, these Genealogies traced the History of a Family and a People, and were MY "Spiritual Ancestors" as well.
According to many Bible Scholars, the Gospel of Matthew was written to a Jewish Audience. It was common knowledge that The Messiah would come from The Tribe of Judah and The House of David. Matthew provides us with the Genealogy of Joseph, who was Jesus's legal father. There is another genealogy in Luke, which most scholars attribute to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Both go back to Abraham through David, but by different lines.
My little story today illustrates three points:
1. The Things of the Spirit are spiritually discerned. The first time I tried to read the KJV, I was not spiritually "right with God". It just seemed like a lot of words to me. As soon as I hit a speed bump, I quit reading.
2. The Word of God does not return void: I didn't throw the Book away when I got stuck reading the Begats. I put it away, and meanwhile, the few things I had read were seeds that were starting to grow.
3. Cast your bread upon the waters: The woman who gave me the Book had no idea how the Book would affect me. She didn't know whether I would keep it or throw it away. Nevertheless, she felt compelled to give it to me, without even expecting a "Thank You."
So here it is, to the Woman on the Kenmore Square Green Line Trolley in 1971:
THANK YOU.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Amen to your prayer and those who throw seeds. Before I read that I was thinking about the pretty short Italian girl at work who gave me a copy of Late Great Planet Earth at lunch. Because of her I read it. God knows how to get our attention.

Amen!!! <>< (NOTE:We must pray this daily from here on out. Getting obvious now!)
Psalm 91
1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
Interesting stories with those begats. Gentile women are mentioned.
Genesis is a book of death—the descendants of Adam died.
Matthew is a book of life—the spiritual descendants of the Last Adam are made alive.
Blessings this holiday season.
