Pope Leo XIV called a two-state arrangement the “only solution” to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, doubling down on the Holy See’s longstanding position in his first airborne news conference en route to Lebanon on Sunday.
“We all know that at this time Israel still does not accept that solution, but we see it as the only solution,” he said, as he flew from Istanbul to Beirut for the second and final leg of his maiden voyage as pope.
“We are also friends with Israel, and we are seeking to be a mediating voice between the two parties that might help them close in on a solution with justice for everyone,” added the pope, speaking in Italian.

Lebanon, a Muslim-majority country where about a third of the population is Christian, has always been a priority for the Vatican, as Christian communities have shrunk amid years of conflict.
Another delegation of some 300 Syrian Christians, led by a Greek Melkite Catholic priest, was set to travel to Lebanon to join a meeting between Leo and youth groups and pray in a public mass on Beirut’s waterfront.
“We are in need of someone like the pope to come and give us hope as Christians” at a time of “fear of an unknown future,” said 24-year-old Dima Awwad, one of the delegation members.

The should stay out of politics and stick with fleecing the poor.
A ‘two states’ is the ‘only solution’ to the conflict in the Vatican between the real Catholics and the current rulers of the church who actually work for the ‘other team’.

It’s kind of chutzpah that you think you know the Bible better than Prevost. Though it’s popular with some evangelicals, cf. Huckabee, the notion that Bible demands Christian fealty and/or deference to the modern state of Israel is largely rejected by Catholics. The pope is not unique in that respect.
With that said, the man is not a political scientist and should consider staying in his lane. His opinions on optimal peace deals for that region are nothing more than his opinions. His charism gives him no special insight into that topic. May as well ask him what he thinks about public transportation or highway speed limits.
In fairness, he did declare the automatic intentional walk to be a mortal sin.
A “2-state solution” would leave 2 non-viable states. The instability would mean another major Middle East war.
A two state solution might be good for Lebanon. Divide the predominantly Christian part from the rest of the country.
