Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Zechariah 14:16-18

16 Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. 17 If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain. 18 If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord[a] will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.

Property Values in our current economic climate are enhanced with the words "WATERFRONT PROPERTY". Realtors can add a couple of extra thousand just for those magic words on a "FOR SALE" sign. Yet, on my way to work I noticed a project that seemed to me to be a little too close to the river. It didn't take long to build the house, and it was indeed beautiful in a Colonial "McMansion" kind of way. But it has now sat there with the "WATERFRONT PROPERTY"For Sale Sign in front of it for months. Closer examination shows that the house is on the very bank of the river, without even a solid place to build a deck. One raging flood would put that McMansion right into Scituate Harbor!

The Ancient Egyptians had learned to live with their River. They expected floods, and timed their growing seasons by their ebb and flow. The Egyptians worshiped the Nile as the Giver of Life. Its annual floods replenished the soil and allowed a magnificent civilization to flourish in the midst of the desert. Even today, the Nile and its surroundings are one of the most startling satellite photos of Earth from Space.

Rain is a rarity in Egypt, but at least there is the Mighty Nile River. The same can be said of other Great Civilizations, like Persia and Babylon. However, in Jerusalem, which is arguably the most contested city in the world, there is no Mighty River to sustain it. Survival relies on the Spring and Autumn Rains, which come from God.

The Prophet Zechariah speaks of the New Jerusalem, which will be ruled over by The Messiah. The Prophet says that the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (Booths or tents) will draw ALL Nations to the Holy City every year.

What seems to e an obscure passage from a "Minor" Prophet has been (at least symbolicly) fulfilled in the end of the Twentieth Century. Many Christians travel to Jerusalem every year to join with Israel in her Celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. I did it in 1984, and it was lovely. I wanted to go again in 1992, but the First Gulf War caused my plans to be canceled.

Even though I'm 73 TODAY, I hope to do it again sometime soon.

Amen, very interesting scripture. The festival of tents almost sounds like a Christian retreat at a campsite with tent meetings. So, in a way we follow it too. I see the festivals as a blessing and not legalistic like some people think. One day soon, these things will happen.

Being a Christian Musician, I've done a LOT of those. However, I really hadn't made the connection to the Feast of Tabernacles. It's an interesting thought! Thank You For Sharing That. 😇

Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem, prayers also for understanding about this future event shown in Revelation Chapter 7 which appears to me to be occurring on the Feast of Tabernacles:

“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” - Revelation 7:9-10

Prayerfully recall also those who had a mark placed on them, all those who lament and sigh over the evil being done in Jerusalem. There is great and purposeful evil being done there right now (today) by this world system to divide the Lords inheritance for Satan’s requirements needed in the Court of Heaven.

“And the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” - Ezekiel 9:4
