[Catholic Caucus] LGBT activists praise Spanish bishops for rejecting ‘conversion therapy’

Cardinal Cobo and Bishop Satué were praised for advancing pro-LGBT language that omits the Catholic Church’s call for chastity.

A Christian activist group has praised two Spanish bishops for their pro-LGBT stance and for rejecting so-called “conversion therapy.”

The Madrid-based Christian Homosexual Organization (CHRISMHOM) praised Cardinal José Cobo of Madrid and Bishop José Antonio Satué of Málaga for their pro-LGBT remarks and apparent deviation from Catholic teaching on the matter of homosexuality.

CHRISMHOM cited recent statements by the two bishops as evidence of their support for the LGBT agenda.

As LifeSiteNews reported in August, Cardinal Cobo recently called for greater “inclusion” of Catholics who adopt homosexual and transgender lifestyles at a conference for a heterodox LGBT group.

“In addition to welcoming others, we must promote a culture of dialogue, accompaniment, and effective inclusion of those who wish to walk with the Church,” Cobo wrote.

To achieve this, the cardinal said that “we are opening new doors and new pastoral attitudes.”

For this reason, Cobo called on Christian communities to avoid what he referred to as “all types of unjust discrimination and processes that dehumanize us.”

Cobo’s remarks were addressed to the pro-LGBT “Global Network of Rainbow Catholics” (GNRC). The cardinal failed to mention that engaging in homosexual acts is a mortal sin and that those who commit them need to repent, or that homosexuality is “objectively disordered,” as the Church teaches.

Bishop Satué, who was recently appointed as the new bishop of Málaga by Pope Leo XIV, addressed the “LGBTI community” during a sermon on September 15, saying: “There is no doubt that everything possible must be done so that the Church and religions as a whole do not give more reasons for suffering, but rather help welcome people as they are, each one, as [Pope] Francis said with his life behind him.”

CHRISMHOM thanked the bishops in a statement “for keeping in mind their mission” and for being shepherds “who open the door and not those who close it, those who open their arms to welcome and not those who impose a ‘conversion’ in which we renounce the ‘rainbow gift’ with which we have been blessed, contributing to a diverse Church built with living stones.”

Even though the two bishops did not explicitly condemn “conversion therapy,” i.e., help and treatment from people who suffer from same-sex attraction and wish to change it, their vaguely pro-LGBT messaging and failure to communicate Catholic doctrine leads pro-LGBT Christians to feel emboldened to remain in objectively sinful relationships.

Cobo and Satué, of course, are both frankenbishops. The former was consecrated a bishop in 2017 and leapfrogged into the college of frankencardinals in 2023; the latter was consecrated a bishop in 2021.

To achieve this, the cardinal said that “we are opening new doors and new pastoral attitudes.” This might get zotted, but does he mean a back door incursion?

Walking with our brothers hand in hand to hell; the destination for those hiding their sinfulness behind others under the pretense of nice.

Love is sacrifice. Love is often being hated for loving. Love is Jesus Christ on the cross. Fonrnication is self-worship, not love, it is worshipping your penis and getting another to.
