🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(9/30/25)[Prayer]

Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
2 Kings 2:1-17

Elijah Taken Up to Heaven

2 When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.”

But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

3 The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”

“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.”

4 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho.”

And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.

5 The company of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”

“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”

6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.”

And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them walked on.

7 Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”

“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.

10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”

11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two.

13 Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

15 The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. 16 “Look,” they said, “we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has picked him up and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.”

“No,” Elisha replied, “do not send them.”

17 But they persisted until he was too embarrassed to refuse. So he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him. 18 When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”

Being a Rock Musician can be a Struggle, but it has its Great Moments. One particular treasure is an Open Mike Night in an Irish Pub in my area that has been ongoing for Eighteen Years. My sister and I have been going for at least ten years of those, so we have a good perspective.

At first, it was hosted by a talented musician named Jackson. Blessed with an amazing voice and great guitar skills, Jackson was a perfect host. He would sing a few songs, interspersed with his originals, and then invite members of the audience to do sets of 3-5 songs, depending on the size of sign-up list. Jackson's Band had to change their name because some other band had already claimed it, and we all were so sorry for him! That would mean that they would have to go through a big legal process, finding a name that wasn't already in use, registering it, and then CHANGING all their artwork, stationery, Business Cards, etc. Their old name was OK when they were just a local band, but now they were starting to "spread out". A name change at such a crucial moment could be disastrous.

Their Music, which is a type of Happy Reggae (not the Revolutionary Stuff) appealed to a wide, ethnically diverse audience because it lifted people up out of their seats and their doldrums. Someone suggested "The Elevators", and then Jackson changed it to E-LOVEators, and the name stuck. Today, the Elovators are an Internationally known band, have toured the world, and have placed right up there with Ziggy Marley on the Reggae Charts. Sadly, we never get to see Jackson anymore, because he's always on tour.

As Far as Open Mike went, Jackson passed the Mantle to my Nephew Jamie, and then Jamie started getting famous with his Band, The Quins. The Elovators and the Quins will be Playing at the MGM Grand in Boston next January. It's already SOLD OUT, so I'll just "be with them in spirit" as they say. (I can't afford the MGM Grand anyway.)

Meanwhile, the Open Mike is still ongoing. The Mantle has been passed to Scotty, who started out as an participant, and then was "elovated" to the position of host. We still attend every Tuesday when we can.

All this talk about Rock Stars and Reggae Bands must seem a little off-topic for a prayer thread. However, the very phrase "Passing the Mantle" comes from this Portion of Scripture. It just goes to show how embedded the Bible is in our language and Culture.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Psalm 86

A Prayer of David.

1 Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my life, for I am devoted to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God; 3be gracious to me, O Lord,
for to you do I cry all day long.
4 Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.
6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
listen to my cry of supplication.
7 In the day of my trouble I call on you,
for you will answer me.

8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
9 All the nations you have made shall come
and bow down before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
10 For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart to revere your name.
12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name for ever.
13 For great is your steadfast love towards me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 O God, the insolent rise up against me;
a band of ruffians seeks my life,
and they do not set you before them.
15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me;
give your strength to your servant;
save the child of your serving-maid.
17 Show me a sign of your favour,
so that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame,
because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
