🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(9/27/25)[Prayer]

Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
1 Kings 18:1-15
Elijah and Obadiah
18 After a long time, in the third year, the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.” 2 So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab.
Now the famine was severe in Samaria, 3 and Ahab had summoned Obadiah, his palace administrator. (Obadiah was a devout believer in the Lord. 4 While Jezebel was killing off the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.) 5 Ahab had said to Obadiah, “Go through the land to all the springs and valleys. Maybe we can find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive so we will not have to kill any of our animals.” 6 So they divided the land they were to cover, Ahab going in one direction and Obadiah in another.
7 As Obadiah was walking along, Elijah met him. Obadiah recognized him, bowed down to the ground, and said, “Is it really you, my lord Elijah?”
8 “Yes,” he replied. “Go tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’”
9 “What have I done wrong,” asked Obadiah, “that you are handing your servant over to Ahab to be put to death? 10 As surely as the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my master has not sent someone to look for you. And whenever a nation or kingdom claimed you were not there, he made them swear they could not find you. 11 But now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ 12 I don’t know where the Spirit of the Lord may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the Lord since my youth. 13 Haven’t you heard, my lord, what I did while Jezebel was killing the prophets of the Lord? I hid a hundred of the Lord’s prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and supplied them with food and water. 14 And now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ He will kill me!”
15 Elijah said, “As the Lord Almighty lives, whom I serve, I will surely present myself to Ahab today.”

Recent events have caused many preachers and politicians to reminisce about St. Stephen, a young Deacon in the Apostolic Age, who was executed for giving a sermon. Here's what I wrote about Stephen way back in 2018:
One of the courses in seminary is called "Homiletics". That is the art and technique of preparing and delivering a Sermon. The word "Homily" means a sermon, and it is an important part of nearly every Type of Jewish or Christian Service, from the traditional liturgical services all the way to the most informal televangelist.
A good sermon has a lot of elements that add up to a unified whole, and I remember reading somewhere that studies have shown that if a sermon goes longer that 18 to 20 minutes without making its point, the audience begins to lose interest and attention fades. Preaching "styles" can vary from the warm, "Country-boy" style to the fiery thunders of Fire-and-Brimstone, to the musical cadence of Southern Gospel music (interspersed with the Mighty Hammond B3 Organ chords), to a purely academic style of a professor expounding the Original Greek and Hebrew, to what is called (unfortunately) "Bible-Thumping.
My own "style" is reading the text, praying about it, and then being reminded of a personal memory that relates. Since I am in my mid-sixties, (NOTE: I'm now in my mid 70s)I have a LOT of stories, but I rely totally upon the Holy Spirit to bring them to mind and connect them to today's reading. Sometimes it works...sometimes not so much, and every once in a while, I veer into the academic thing, or I talk too long, or I get emotional! But there you go. I never took the Course in Homiletics 101, so one never knows what to expect.
Stephen, originally ordained as a Deacon to wait on tables, thus freeing the Apostles for study, prayer, and sermons, started showing other Spiritual Gifts. This time it was Stephen brought before the Sanhedrin and forced to defend himself. Without ever having been to seminary or taking "Homiletics", Stephen delivers the Sermon of His Life.
Stephen is addressing Scholars and expositors of Scripture, so that is the foundation of his sermon. He gives a synopsis of Scripture and History, going back to the Call of Abraham (Genesis 12) and touching on the Story of Joseph (my favorite), the Exodus, King David, Solomon, the Temple, and all the way to the Babylonian Captivity, all while showing the people's obstinate refusal to obey God throughout their history. This, of course, drives the scholars crazy, because they KNOW it is the Truth. When Truth clashes with Agenda, it sets up a cognitive dissonance that makes people irrational. And so, they cover their ears and condemn Stephen to Death.
During the stoning of Stephen, there is a young scholar standing to the side, holding the cloaks of the murderers. (It's kind of hard to throw a rock with a big floppy robe on). He may have thought that he wasn't really participating in the murder, because he didn't actually throw a rock.
Yet, years later, in his letter to the Romans, this man said:
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1 KJV)
And, that, my FRiends, is the "sermon" for today.
In Today's Reading, we see Elijah showing up after a time of self-imposed exile. His friend and fellow-prophet Obadiah, greets him and warns Elijah that King Ahab is still enraged with him, having had no rain in three years. Instead of repenting, even just for the sake of rain, Ahab has ramped up his persecution of believers. Obadiah has hidden the few sincere believers in a cave and has been doing what he could to keep them alive, but his own life has been in peril the whole time. Now Elijah shows up and wants Obadiah to announce his arrival to Ahab. This is going to be an interesting showdown.
Stay Tuned!

Amen.
In today’s reading, I pray for Israel:
[Protect and maintain] the stock which Your right hand planted, and the branch (the son) that You have reared and made strong for Yourself.
16 They have burned it with fire, it is cut down; may they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.
17 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You have made strong for Yourself.
18 Then will we not depart from You; revive us (give us life) and we will call upon Your name.
19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; cause Your face to shine [in pleasure, approval, and favor on us], and we shall be saved!

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God [a]ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
If Satan had known the massive revival that Charlie Kirk’s death would have triggered, he never would have...

Amen !!! <><
The war against our internal enemies starts today!
Psalm 110
Of David. A Psalm.
1 The Lord says to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.’
2 The Lord sends out from Zion
your mighty sceptre.
Rule in the midst of your foes.
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly
on the day you lead your forces
on the holy mountains.*
From the womb of the morning,
like dew, your youth* will come to you.
4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest for ever according to the order of Melchizedek.’*
5 The Lord is at your right hand;
he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will execute judgement among the nations,
filling them with corpses;
he will shatter heads
over the wide earth.
7 He will drink from the stream by the path;
therefore he will lift up his head.
