Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
1 Kings 17:2-6
Elijah Fed by Ravens
2 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”
5 So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven
We Worship Your Holy Name!
We Love You, LORD.
With Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Soul,
Our Whole Mind,
And Our Strength.
May The Words of Our Mouth,
And the Meditations of Our Heart,
Be Acceptable To You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

Psalm 71
1 In you, O Lord, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me and save me.
3 Be to me a rock of refuge,
a strong fortress,* to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
5 For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
6 Upon you I have leaned from my birth;
it was you who took me from my mother’s womb.
My praise is continually of you.
7 I have been like a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all day long.
9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
do not forsake me when my strength is spent.
10 For my enemies speak concerning me,
and those who watch for my life consult together.
11 They say, ‘Pursue and seize that person
whom God has forsaken,
for there is no one to deliver.’
12 O God, do not be far from me;
O my God, make haste to help me!
13 Let my accusers be put to shame and consumed;
let those who seek to hurt me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.
14 But I will hope continually,
and will praise you yet more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all day long,
though their number is past my knowledge.
16 I will come praising the mighty deeds of the Lord God,
I will praise your righteousness, yours alone.
17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
18 So even to old age and grey hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might
to all the generations to come.*
Your power 19and your righteousness, O God,
reach the high heavens.
You who have done great things,
O God, who is like you?
20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
21 You will increase my honour,
and comfort me once again.
22 I will also praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have rescued.
24 All day long my tongue will talk of your righteous help,
for those who tried to do me harm
have been put to shame, and disgraced.

I originally told this personal story when discussing St. Paul in the Book of Acts, as he "escalated his case" to Caesar. Afterwards, I will share how it also relates to Elijah, and even Current Events.
For over ten years I bought and sold items, mostly musical instruments that I had restored, on a site that I will not name, but has four letters. (The first letter is "e" and the last letter is "y"). Most of the time, my responses were excellent, and I had a five-star rating as Top Seller. I prided myself on quality items, well-packaged and arriving intact, and fair prices. The last transaction, however, was disastrous. After carefully packaging and shipping a KEYBOARD to somebody in New Mexico, I was hit with a negative rating that sent my ten years of careful work crashing down, my Top Seller Rating destroyed, and my listings all went to the bottom of the pile. The reason he gave for the negative rating was in Spanish: "No bueno, no tapa".
Well, I knew what "No Bueno" Meant, but what the heck was this "No Tapa"? "Tapas" are little appetizers! Of COURSE I didn't include appetizers with the keyboard!
So I appealed the negative rating.
The first thing I did was look up "tapa" in a Spanish dictionary. "Tapa" means "Lid" in Spanish. Evidently appetizers look like little lids, and so got the name. Now it made sense. The keyboard didn't have a LID. But Keyboards DON'T have lids. Pianos have lids, but keyboards don't. Armed with this new information, I figured it would be a simple matter to get my Top Seller Rating back tout d'suite!
Calling customer service involved getting a code number to enter when the telephone prompt asked for it. I dutifully followed the directions and got a voice that sounded like an Asian teenager. I explained carefully what had happened, and she told me that the "Buyer is ALWAYS Right." So I had to keep the black mark. I demanded to speak with a supervisor. She said she would issue a request to "escalate" my appeal, but assured me that her supervisor would agree with HER. Sure enough, that is EXACTLY what happened.
This started a process of phone calls and emails that caused me to eventually quit selling things on e--y. Weeks after the process began, a high mucky-muck from e--y called ME and said that the negative had been removed and my status restored. A quick look at the buyer's history showed that he was doing this to EVERYBODY, and people were refunding his money in order to keep their ratings. I was the first person who had challenged him. But it was too late. I had already made my decision. I discontinued my association with the company and never looked back.
Paul found himself unjustly accused, but it is more than "Top-Rated Seller" status that is threatened. He is fighting for his very life! Every official he appeals to either abdicates their authority out of fear or indifference, and leaves Paul needing to "escalate" to a higher authority.
Eventually this leads him to his appeal to Caesar.
Now, what on earth does this have to do with Elijah being fed by ravens in the desert? And why was Elijah even in such a desolate place to begin with?
Elijah was in the desert because he had just announced some very bad news to King Ahab.
"If you don't repent, God will stop the rain for three years."
Three years without rain, even in the Middle East, was a disastrous prophecy. But, notice, that this could all have been avoided if Ahab and Jezebel had heeded God and repented. But they didn't. Along came the drought. This made Elijah extremely unpopular, as if he were the cause, and he had to go into hiding. God used the forces of nature to keep Elijah alive in that hostile environment. As bad as it got, Elijah didn't recant the Word of God.
Paul had been an agent of the religious establishment when he had a sudden and dramatic conversion on the Road to Damascus. After that, he couldn't keep his mouth shut! He preached to everyone,: Jews, Gentiles, Religious Leaders, Slaves, Governors, Soldiers, and Kings. He ended up in prison, where he wrote a goodly chunk of what we now call The New Testament.
Standing up to "authorities" may get you banned from Facebook (or eBay!), It can cause you to lose money, or get you put in prison. It can make you lose your job, or even get you killed. Many people would rather not "cause trouble" and thus, they will keep TRUTH under wraps to please the crowd.
Imagine, though, the scenario if Ahab and Jezebel had repented. Imagine if the Sanhedrin and Roman Governors had believed Paul. Imagine if the PTBs on the internet stood up for Truth instead of the Politically Correct narrative. It would be a different world.
But...would it be a better world? God could have created a whole planet full of Yes-Men, who never sinned, and who always did the right thing, but had no Free Will. That would be like having the World's Biggest Collection of Barbie Dolls.
That would be "No Bueno".
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Yes, speaking Truth can get you killed, but it’s worth it.
(I no longer sell on that site, either. Too many buyers exploiting policy to get free stuff at the sellers’ expense.)

Very good word. Drought once again comes up. Could be a big change coming for all of us, especially for those who are caught red handed but refuse to recant.

I try to keep politics off this thread, because FR has so many other threads to talk about it. However, Charlie Kirk was assassinated BECAUSE he preached the Gospel. I was thinking about him when I shared today's story. Getting banned from FB or eBay is nothing compared to getting shot in the neck. And yet, few people are courageous enough to speak the truth and risk being banned from those sites. It shows how addicted many people are to "Approval".
