Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The One True God.
We Come into Your Presence With Singing
and Into Your Courts With Praise,
For Your Are Eternal,
Omnipotent, and Righteous,
Our Creator,
and The Creator of All That Is.
It Is You That Command Nature and All It Contains,
The Earth is Yours,
And All of It's Creatures.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

My life has been indelibly influenced by the Sea. I knew who Captain Ahab was before I knew who KING Ahab was. The following stories, from long ago (Twentieth Century!) explain it a little.
From the time he was about nine, my Dad spent his boyhood summers on board a wooden fishing schooner, named the "Sadie Noonan", that sailed out of Gloucester, MA. He slept in the forward bunk with his dad, who was a wiry little guy, and did odd jobs around the ship. He did not receive any pay, but when a huge codfish was hauled in, he would scramble onto the fish with his little knife and cut out the liver. By the end of the journey he would have a whole jar of cod livers which he would sell to a medicine company back home. Sometimes he made more money from the cod livers than his dad made for his "share" of the voyage. However, nobody on the crew was willing to interrupt their job to climb onto the fish, root around for the liver, save them up, and then seek out a buyer for them, so nobody complained. Besides, it was good having the little kid around to swab the decks and make coffee.
Years later, Dad shared this awesome heritage with his six children. We often went to Gloucester, Marblehead, and Salem to look at the scenery and visit museums. One day, Dad suggested we go SOUTH instead, to Mystic Connecticut, as they had a theme park there that was set up like an old New England Fishing Village. So we all piled into the Ford Station Wagon and visited Mystic Seaport Museum.
It was awesome. There was a Whaling Vessel (The Charles W. Morgan) complete with tri-works and seafaring re-enactors, and a whole 19th Century Living Village with all the Nautical Accessories. We had a great time climbing on the ships, the monuments, and, of course, the STOCKS. LOL. Then we all piled into the Ship's Chandlery (a kind of general store) to have lunch.
Suddenly, Dad stopped short, transfixed by a ship's wheel he saw hanging over the counter.
"Oh My God." he said."It's the SADIE NOONAN!"
Sure enough, the wheel had the name of the ship emblazoned upon it...the very ship upon which Dad used to collect his cod livers.
Nearly a half-century later, Dad was watching a grainy old documentary about Okinawa on the History Channel. Suddenly, he saw his 17-year-old self, piloting the landing craft up to the beach. He knew it was him because of the designation on the bow of the craft. It was a "Sadie Noonan Moment".
The Prophet Elijah was in constant conflict with the wicked King Ahab and his wife Jezebel, who was arguably even worse. What got Elijah into trouble was that he didn't pull any punches when "advising" the King. He told it like it was, and that meant calling out Ahab and Jezebel's wickedness, idolatry, and total lack of concern for their subjects. This got Elijah into big trouble with the "Powers That Be", and he had to flee for his life.
His parting shot to the Royals was that there would be NO RAIN for the next few years. As we shall see, instead of repenting and begging Elijah to relent on this Prophecy, Ahab and Jezebel double down on their wickedness, forcing Elijah to flee the court.
Very soon, Ahab and Jezebel will see the results of their stubbornness.
It STOPS Raining.

ODB used to be posted daily right here on FR, by a beloved FReeper named “The Mayor”.
His real name was Russ, and he really was a mayor of a small town in Ne York State.
He has since passed away. We all miss him, AND Our Daily Bread.
Interesting that your devotional reading dovetailed perfectly with Today's J-Thread. That happens a LOT!
There are no coincidences, my FRiend.

Psalm 69
To the leader: according to Lilies. Of David.
1 Save me, O God,
for the waters have come up to my neck.
2 I sink in deep mire,
where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
and the flood sweeps over me.
3 I am weary with my crying;
my throat is parched.
My eyes grow dim
with waiting for my God.
4 More in number than the hairs of my head
are those who hate me without cause;
many are those who would destroy me,
my enemies who accuse me falsely.
What I did not steal
must I now restore?
5 O God, you know my folly;
the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
6 Do not let those who hope in you be put to shame because of me,
O Lord God of hosts;
do not let those who seek you be dishonoured because of me,
O God of Israel.
7 It is for your sake that I have borne reproach,
that shame has covered my face.
8 I have become a stranger to my kindred,
an alien to my mother’s children.
9 It is zeal for your house that has consumed me;
the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.
10 When I humbled my soul with fasting,*
they insulted me for doing so.
11 When I made sackcloth my clothing,
I became a byword to them.
12 I am the subject of gossip for those who sit in the gate,
and the drunkards make songs about me.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.
At an acceptable time, O God,
in the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me.
With your faithful help 14rescue me
from sinking in the mire;
let me be delivered from my enemies
and from the deep waters.
15 Do not let the flood sweep over me,
or the deep swallow me up,
or the Pit close its mouth over me.
16 Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good;
according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
17 Do not hide your face from your servant,
for I am in distress—make haste to answer me.
18 Draw near to me, redeem me,
set me free because of my enemies.
19 You know the insults I receive,
and my shame and dishonour;
my foes are all known to you.
20 Insults have broken my heart,
so that I am in despair.
I looked for pity, but there was none;
and for comforters, but I found none.
21 They gave me poison for food,
and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
22 Let their table be a trap for them,
a snare for their allies.
23 Let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see,
and make their loins tremble continually.
24 Pour out your indignation upon them,
and let your burning anger overtake them.
25 May their camp be a desolation;
let no one live in their tents.
26 For they persecute those whom you have struck down,
and those whom you have wounded, they attack still more.*
27 Add guilt to their guilt;
may they have no acquittal from you.
28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living;
let them not be enrolled among the righteous.
29 But I am lowly and in pain;
let your salvation, O God, protect me.
30 I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This will please the Lord more than an ox
or a bull with horns and hoofs.
32 Let the oppressed see it and be glad;
you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
33 For the Lord hears the needy,
and does not despise his own that are in bonds.
34 Let heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and everything that moves in them.
35 For God will save Zion
and rebuild the cities of Judah;
and his servants shall live* there and possess it;
36 the children of his servants shall inherit it,
and those who love his name shall live in it.
