First of ll, I want to apologize to anyone who was offended by a nasty comment on this thread that I didn't catch and remove till this morning. Thank you to the GENTLEMAN who called out that offensive poster in Defense of this Garden of Prayer.

Today's Scripture Passage is a Warning to people who call themselves "Christian" but who have not learned any lessons from Scripture. The Story of the Exodus is one of incredible miracles and provision. Yet there was also rebellion and faithlessness. In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul states that the God of the Old Testament is the Same as the God of the New Testament, and we are called to Faith and Obedience to His Word. Here is something I shared some time ago, about a popular novel that attempted to twist Scripture to tell a good story, that enjoyed immense popularity at one time.(Now they can't even give this book away, and the movie made from it bombed). Here we go:

In 2003, the world went all gaga over a book by Dan Brown called "The Da Vinci Code". It was about a supposed conspiracy that spanned two Millennia, to hide that Jesus was supposedly married to Mary Magdalene. The "clues" were supposedly hidden in Da Vinci's artwork, most notably "The Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper". If it had just been treated by the public as a rip-roaring yarn or a spooky adventure story, it would have been fine. But Noooooo. A plethora of TV programs on cable were spawned and the basis of the NOVEL were being treated as non-fiction by the media. This was in spite of historical, textual, and biblical errors in the story that were so easy to spot that I got them in my first reading of the NOVEL. (the most egregious of which was when the "learned" professor blithely spoke of the alternate "gospels" found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. He must have been thinking of the "Nag Hammadi" documents which were found in EGYPT, not Israel...but I digress). As an avid student of the Bible, Art, and Church History, I found myself chuckling at the mistakes in the book, even as I enjoyed the intrigue and action.

But then, my amusement turned to anger when I saw how the public latched onto this book as TRUTH. I ended up hating the book because of its effect on people. I couldn't believe how the media had latched onto it and began promoting its theories as if it were fact. What ever happened to Scientific Inquiry? What ever happened to the Experimental Method? Just because a novelist states that the figure reclining on Jesus's breast in Da Vinci's "Last Supper" was NOT John, but Mary Magdalene, does that mean that it's true? But, just as the general public was brainwashed into accepting other "theories" without the Scientific Method, a similar thing happened with "The Da Vinci Code".

Meanwhile, we have four Gospel Accounts of The Last Supper. We have the process that was used to obtain a room big enough for Jesus and His group, we have the occasion (Passover, obviously!), we have table conversation, we have a description of the guests, and we have some of the foods mentioned (bread, wine, a dipping sauce, etc). John's Gospel goes into great detail, involving a long speech and prayer, foot washing, the revelation of the betrayer, John leaning on Jesus, and more. It was a long night that closed with a hymn. Then...out to the Garden for agonized prayer, betrayal, and arrest. This "Shared Meal" is commemorated at every Christian Service all over the world, and has been for 2000 years. Whatever the "denomination", the meal is remembered. And we don't need Dan Brown or the History Channel to reinterpret it for us! Just My Humble Opinion..

As I had mentioned in another post, I recently received two CD Sets of the two great "Passions" written by Johann Sebastian Bach. When those cantatas were written, it was considered sinful to portray Jesus in a drama. The Scripture Portions are sung by a character named "Evangelist", and the Voice of Jesus is surrounded by a "halo" of instrumentation that distinguishes Him from the other voices.

Vestiges of this school of thought showed up in early movies about Jesus, most notably "Ben Hur". Although Jesus is a prominent character in that film, we never see His Face.

These sometimes awkward customs are in respect for the Second Commandment, which forbids graven images.

While we have been freed from the Ceremonial Law depicted in the Torah, we are still drinking the same Spiritual Rock that the Israelites drank from in the desert.

The REAL Story is so much better than anything Dan Brown can dream up.
