The Rev. Kenneth MacArthur of Cambridge, Mass., has been selected by the American Eugenics Society as secretary of the committee to cooperate with clergymen in an effort to link the Church with the movement to improve the human race from the eugenic standpoint.
"The modern Church increasingly conceives as its purpose the production of a better humanity, in individual and social relations,” said Mr. MacArthur. "Child allowances for families of superior clergymen will be promoted. It is hoped to interest denominational organizations and wealthy individuals and foundations in this subject. Investigations of the ancestry of the clergy, the effect of heredity on lay membership and the results of child allowances will be continued. Sermon contests will be held to stimulate ministers to study eugenics and to popularize the results of their studies."
Mr. MacArthur is son of the Rev. Dr. Robert Stewart MacArthur, who was minister of Calvary Baptist Church in New York City forty-one years.

And came upon a very interesting chapter about how mainstream the idea of Eugenics was.
To quote from the book
By the 1920s, hundreds of American churches participated in a national "Eugenics sermon competition".
As the Rev. Kenneth MacArthur, a winner put it in his sermon "If we take seriously the Christian purpose of realizing on earth the ideal divine society, we shall welcome every help which science affords"
Oliver wendell Holmes was an apostle for the new science
Pretty much see through what you’re trying to do here, John MacArthur’s father was a preacher, Jack and grandfather , also a preacher, Harry.
Nope. This is a history piece of how western Europeans started thinking of Darwinism as lart of Christianity.
Conservative Protestants opposed this but they were derided as “out of date” and “not following the latest in science”.
Hitler in the 1930s wrote strong condemnations of both the Catholic and of conservative Protestants that they were not following “the latest in science”.
The same argument is used today to try to make us accept the LGBT ideology. And their targets are Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox, Jews etc
plausible deniability always a friend. Why not “Oliver Wendell Holmes... “as your title? Far more famous, a Supreme Court justice, and “The Yankee from Olympus” per Catherine Drinker Bowen’s biography.
This Massachusetts Rev. MacArthur seems no way related to the Canada-California MacArthurs.

Perhaps, Sopo, because Cronos follows the board rules.
To avoid duplicate posts, use the original headline. Although the links on the Admin Mod page appear to be dead at this point. And you do appear to be fairly new, so perhaps you didn't know that.
We superior men can fix what God peermits to be born...the weeds, the dimwitted. God decides who is conceived, who is born, and we holy superior pharisees will fix his errors.
Maybe God wants fewer of YOU and nore of THEM, and that is why you are having fewer and THEY are breeding like rabbits!
He who does not breed...eugenicists and homosexuals....dies off.
Because that isn’t the title of the article.
Read the book on JRR TOLKIEN and CS LEWIS that I listed above.
there is also an excellent book called “Hitler’s religion” and it is excellent. Hitler’s beliefs were neo Darwinism.
This book on JRR TOLKIEN and Lewis adds to it. Darwinism morphed in the late 1800e into practically a religion. People started believing that human culture and “race” were also affected.
Hitler felt that the Jews weakened the German “race”. He hated them for their race, not their religion.
Yet at the same time he also murdered Gypsies who were and are real Aryans (Indo Iranians) unlike the Germans. And he hated the blonde blue eyed Slavs and wanted to exterminate them
In my opinion the loss of faith started in the 1700s with the Deistic movement and then Darwinism and new scientific discoveries only added to it.
Then, during world war one evry country said it was fighting a war with God on its side (The Germans, British, French even Americans) and I think the carnage of thia holy war severely damaged faith. WW2 only exacerbated it
Oh yes, that “Preaching Eugenics” book is next on my list to read, but I have a backlog of 5 more books to get through before I even purchase that one. Have you read it?
People were just animals and should be bred and sterilized as the "farmer" (read for that the elites) thought good.
This was not just for the "inferior races" but for any of the "superior" who were not up to snuff. People who were poor, people who were handicapped, people who were elderly.
Yes. I think we don’t realize HOW popular it was.
So popular that people thought anyone who argued against it was “not on the right side of history”.
I am convinced that it led to Naziisms race ideology
It is a happy book to show you how you can have the best grandchildren by carefully selecting your child's future mate based on their head shape. Who doesn't want happy healthy grandchildren? But the more you read it the more uneasy it makes you.
I recommend reading books from the time period. They show how deeply rooted this thing was. To the point that no one questioned it. Until they saw the death camps.
and another insane thing is that world war 1 had state churches all following the government line
The church of England in the UK sided with king and parliament.
In Germany the unified church (Wilhelm ii forcibly joined the Lutheran and Calvinist churches) was a department of state.
In France the Catholic clergy did the same.
And we find the same even in the USA which didn’t have a national church.
The disillusionment that occured AFTER this and the 4 years of hell must have played a big role in the decay of Christian adherence
Can you refer some books?
The books I’ve read taht after from the 1880s to 1930s are Wodehouse, Arnold Bennet and Christie. Hardly social commentaries perhaps.
